Josh Williamson scored 21 points and Corey Willis added 15 as Glenvar defeated Lebanon 72-58 in a first-round Region C tournament game Tuesday night at Glenvar.
Glenvar (17-6) led 30-22 at halftime and went on a 7-0 run to open the second half. Williamson scored nine points and Perry Taylor had seven in a 25-point third quarter. Taylor finished with 13 points and seven rebounds, and James Williams added 12 points and eight rebounds. Willis also grabbed eight rebounds as the Highlanders outrebounded Lebanon 32-25.
The Highlanders also had the edge in turnovers. Glenvar finished with 10 while Lebanon had 19.
Ben Carpenter scored 30 points, including seven 3-point goals, for Lebanon, which finished the season 16-9. Travis Brightbill scored 12 points and grabbed 13 rebounds.
Glenvar will face Floyd County on Friday at 8 p.m. at Blacksburg High School. The Buffaloes (19-3) defeated Fort Chiswell 79-63 on Tuesday night.
Derek Saunders paced Floyd County with 20 points. Jason Dalton (18), Travis Cantrell (16) and Jesse Slusher (12) also scored in double figures for the Buffaloes.
With Cantrell, Floyd County's leading scorer, struggling through a subpar shooting performance, the Buffaloes looked to Dalton and Slusher to pick up the offensive slack.
The duo combined for 20 first-half points, outscoring the entire Fort Chiswell team.
Northwest girls
Albemarle 53, Cave Spring 43: The Knights couldn't handle the Patriots' press in the second quarter and paid the price in a first-round matchup in Charlottesville.
Albemarle took advantage of seven Cave Spring turnovers in the period to outscore the Knights 16-6 and take control. Cave Spring used a half-court trap to cut its deficit to six points in the third quarter, but never got any closer the rest of the way.
The Patriots spread the floor with about four minutes to go and hit 11 of 14 free throws in the final period.
Alivian Coates and Cindy Frazier led the Patriots with 12 points each as Frazier hit four 3-pointers. Angel Johnson had 11 points and Jessica Evers added 10.
Cheryl Rhodes led the Knights (14-9) with nine points and Jaclyn Banks had eight.
