CHRIS BOYD, son of Dianne Boyd of Roanoke, recently participated in the 10th National Black Student Leadership Conference in Richmond. The conference is designed to better equip college students with leadership skills and to allow them to learn from the leaders of today.
Boyd, a junior journalism major at Lynchburg College, is a 1993 graduate of Patrick Henry High School.
JAMES MADISON UNIVERSITY has awarded bachelor's degrees to the following Roanoke-area students for the 1995 fall semester: Sandra L. Adams, Bryant F. Cass, Mason I. Cass. Michelle A. Esguerra, Christie A. Hunt and Leonard B. Navitskis, all of Roanoke; Thomas C. Joyce and Elisa A. Winstead, both of Salem, and Rebecca L. Meacham from Troutville.
ROANOKE COLLEGE has given its Distinguished Service Award to Steve Barber of Roanoke, the Rev. Paul Hendrickson of Salem, and Mai Nguyen of Vinton.
The award recognizes excellence in the individual's position, a record of outstanding accomplishments, loyalty and dedication to the college, and service to the college community.

KELLY ELIZABETH DIERKER, daughter of Judith and Richard Dierker of Roanoke, has been named to the dean's list for the fall semester at Pfeiffer College in Misenheimer, N.C. She also has been named to the 1996 edition of "Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges."

BRIAN LAWHORN of Roanoke has been named to the dean's list at the University of Richmond.
JULIA LYNN, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Miller Lynn of Roanoke, has been inducted into the Order of Gownsmen, an honorary student organization at the University of the South in Sewanee, Tenn.

CARSON-NEWMAN COLLEGE has announced the names of three Roanoke students who were named to the dean's list for the fall semester. They are: Renee F. Doty, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Doty; Scott Grisso, son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Grisso; and Rebecca C. Moore, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert G. Moore.
ERNEST CLARK JR., son of Ernest and Mary Clark of Roanoke, was named to the dean's list at Cedarville College for the fall semester. Clark, a 1994 graduate of Roanoke Valley Christian Schools, is a sophomore Bible major at the Ohio school.
JOHN C. PITNER, son of Robert and Jeanne Pitner of Roanoke, received one of seven Board of Visitors Scholarships at Guilford College in Greensboro, N.C., for the spring semester. Pitner, a junior geology major, will use the $200 scholarship to study in Brunnenburg, Italy.
SARAH C. AKIN of Roanoke earned a bachelor's degree in sociology from Roanoke College in December. Akin graduated from Dowling High School in Des Moines, Iowa.
