A Bedford County woman apparently committed suicide Tuesday by jumping off a bridge.
Eva Barksdale, 61, of Forest fell 45 feet from a bridge on Virginia 811 in Forest shortly before 1 p.m. and landed on railroad tracks, said Lt. Kent Robey of the Bedford County Sheriff's Office.
Witnesses said Barksdale pulled her car onto the bridge, walked around the car and then sat on the side of the bridge, Robey said. No one saw her jump.
There was no note, he said, and police don't know why the woman would have jumped.
Three trains were stalled on the tracks for about three hours after the death, Robey said.
