CLEMONS THANKS LUCKY STARS FOR 300

Once in a blue moon, Alan Clemons bowls a 300 game. His blue moon came up again Monday.

``I noticed there was a full moon, so either something good or something bad was going to happen,'' Clemons said after rolling his perfect game at Hilltop Lanes in Roanoke. ``I didn't expect anything good to happen, but it's always nice when something like this happens.''

It was Clemons' fifth 300 game in 16 years of bowling. He rolled the perfect game in Hilltop's major scratch league with his D.J. Inventory teammates, Tom Wilson, Toby Mittelstetter and David Henderlite.

While he has bowled 300 games before, Clemons said he still was nervous in his second game of the set, when he rolled a 155. He carries a 205 average.

``The nerves are still there, I guess,'' said Clemons, who will turn 33 in April. ``I can't complain, because when I shot my first 300 game, I backed it up with a 141.''
