Both times Christopher Newport has reached the NCAA Division III men's basketball Sweet 16, it has lost to the eventual champion.
That could bode well for Washington (Mo.) University, which defeated the Captains 87-71 on Friday in a South-Midwest Sectional at the Bast Center.
``If we're sitting here next week, I'll be glad to expound on that,'' said Washington coach Mark Edwards.
J.J. Siepierski led the Bears with 22 points and center Kevin Folkl was 8-of-8 from the field for 20 points.
``For them to shoot 63 percent for the game shocks me,'' said Captains coach C.J. Woollum. ``This was the most a team has sliced us up all year.''
Jeff McLean had 18 points to lead Christopher Newport.
