JULIA LYNN, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Miller Lynn of Roanoke, has been inducted into the Order of Gownsmen, an honorary student organization at the University of the South in Sewanee, Tenn.

NICHOLAS L. VARNEY of Salem is participating in the honors program at University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
CARSON-NEWMAN COLLEGE has announced the names of three Roanoke students who were named to the dean's list for the fall semester. They are: Renee F. Doty, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Doty; Scott Grisso, son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Grisso; and Rebecca C. Moore, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert G. Moore.
ERNEST CLARK JR., son of Ernest and Mary Clark of Roanoke, was named to the dean's list at Cedarville College for the fall semester. Clark, a 1994 graduate of Roanoke Valley Christian Schools, is a sophomore Bible major at the Ohio school.
JOHN C. PITNER, son of Robert and Jeanne Pitner of Roanoke, received one of seven Board of Visitors Scholarships at Guilford College in Greensboro, N.C., for the spring semester. Pitner, a junior geology major, will use the $200 scholarship to study in Brunnenburg, Italy.
SARAH C. AKIN of Roanoke earned a bachelor's degree in sociology from Roanoke College in December. Akin graduated from Dowling High School in Des Moines, Iowa.
SUSAN DAVIS, daughter of Ralph and Harriet Davis of Vinton and CHRISTOPHER BOYD, son of Dianne Boyd of Roanoke, recently participated in the Anderson Leadership Conference held at Lynchburg College. The conference focused on the aspects of a good leader.
Boyd, a 1993 graduate of Patrick Henry High School, is a junior communication major at Lynchburg College.
Davis, a 1993 graduate of Staunton River High School, is a junior sociology major at Lynchburg College.
ELLYN STECKER, daughter of Hand and Rosaline Stecker of Roanoke, has been named to the honor roll at Saint Mary's High School in Raleigh, N.C. for the fall semester.
TROY L. ETTER, son of Michael and Sue Etter of Roanoke, has been named to the dean's list at Virginia Commonwealth University for the fall semester.
JUNE ZHU of Roanoke, has been named to the dean's list at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y. Zhu is a sophomore majoring in electrical engineering.
BRYAN MOSHER of Roanoke, has been named to the dean's list at Salem-Teikyo University in Salem, W.Va.
KIMBERLY M. BOYER, daughter of Paul and Sue Boyer of Troutville, has been named to the dean's list at the University of Virginia for the fall semester.
Boyer is a 1994 graduate of Northside High School.
LaSHAWN PATTERSON of Roanoke, is among eight Ferrum College students who spent their spring break in Atlanta, Ga. performing community service at homeless shelters and other community outreach centers.
The group helped with community service activities at Brookhaven Child Development Center, Empty the Shelters, St. Luke's Episcopal Church and Our House in Atlanta and Decatur, Ga.
KIRSTEN STEWART, daughter of Connie L. Crites of Roanoke, has been named to the dean's list at Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tenn. for the fall semester.
Stewart, a mathematics major, is a graduate of Cave Spring High School.

ELIZABETH E. HALDEMAN, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar H. Haldeman Jr. of Stow, Ohio, formerly of Roanoke, has been named to the 1996 edition of Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.
