MORRIS, Richard A., of Sydney, Australia, adored husband of Vicki Maree of Sydney, Australia; cherished and loved son of Robert and Dorothy Morris of Virginia; loved brother of Bruce; brother-in-law to Alice; and uncle to Michelle, Leigh and Eric of Calif.; dearly loved son-in-law of Vince and Aileen Costa; brother-in-law of Jeff and Maree Costa; and uncle to Jack of Sydney, Australia. Born in Richmond in 1956, passed away Wednesday, March 13, 1996 in Canberra, Australia. Raised in Tucson, Ariz. and educated at the University of Arizona, he began his career in the hospitality industry at age 15, working part time as dish-hand with the Bobby McGee's Restaurant Group while he gained his Bachelor of Science Business Administration (BSBA) and post graduate studies in Public Administration at the University of Arizona. His natural talents and enthusiasm for the food and beverages area led him to pursue his career with Bobby McGee's following his graduation. Over the period 1971-1987 he fulfilled numerous roles, including Director of Training and culminating in Director of Operational Services based at the Phoenix corporate office. In 1987 Dwight Clark of the San Francisco 49ers appointed him as Director of Operations for his restaurant group, Clark's by the Bay, Redwood City, Calif. In 1989 Rich joined Heartthrob Enterprises as Regional Manager, based in Chicago, Ill., responsible for the Baja Beach Club and other such innovative concepts. His adventurous nature and passion for being involved with new projects led him to accept the position of Director of Operations of Bobby McGee's, based in Sydney, Australia in May 1990. The challenge of managing an American-style concept in a foreign country and making it viable and successful was relished by Rich. His fondness for the Australian life-style and people grew. His exuberance, vitality, unfailing sense of humor and sheer professionalism quickly earned him a special place in an all Australian company. While in Australia he met Vicki, his wife, and they both returned to the USA in 1993. Rich was then appointed to the position of Vice President of Operations for the Restaurant Development Group. This group is well known for their innovative themed restaurants, mostly located in Chicago. Such concepts included Surf and Turf, Mambo Grill, The Saloon Steakhouse, Kinzie Chophouse, Club Creole, Bar Louie and Bossa Nova. In October 1995 Rich and Vicki returned to Australia and decided to make Sydney their home. He rejoined the Rydges Hotel Group as Director of Food and Beverage. In January 1996 he married Vicki at the Regina Coeli Church, Beverly Hills, Sydney. This church has considerable significance, as it was established by an Australian Chaplain, Father William Evans, who was on the Australian ship, The Canberra, when it was sunk in the Coral Sea. He and many others were rescued by the American destroyer, Patterson, in World War II. In 1963 he built the church as a monument to the friendship and mateship that exists between both Australians and Americans. The Australian and American flags and coats-of arms have equal prominence at the church and this symbolism was greatly cherished by Rich and Vicky. A WITTY, DYNAMIC AND GIVING MAN, RICH IS TOO DEARLY LOVED TO EVER BE FORGOTTEN. A funeral service will be held in Sydney, Australia at the Regina Coeli Church on Monday, March 18, 1996, at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of sending flowers, a fund is being established to maintain the upkeep of the Regina Coeli Church in Sydney, Australia. Donations may be made by telephone to 011 612 230 0700, or via facsimile 011 612 227 9127 (The Wentworth Hotel Sydney).
