Montgomery County residents can peruse the advertised budget for fiscal year 1996-97 by accessing the county's home page on the Blacksburg Electronic Village.
A public hearing on the proposed budget and tax rates will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at Auburn High School in Riner.
The $72.7 million advertised budget includes a proposed real-estate tax rate of 75 cents per $100 of assessed value. The Board of Supervisors may vote to decrease that amount, but may not go above the proposed 6-cent increase over the current 69-cent rate.
The county's home page includes a directory of local officials and soon will include Board of Supervisors meeting agendas and minutes. Supervisor Jim Moore invites interested residents to attend a news conference about the new features of the home page at 10 a.m. today at the county courthouse.
A copy of the proposed budget also may be found at the Montgomery-Floyd Regional Library headquarters on Sheltman Street in Christiansburg.
