After rolling 11 balls exactly the way he wanted Monday night, bowler Roy Jordan got a welcome break on the 12th one.
``I sent it a little wider than I wanted, but it came back and crunched 'em up pretty good,'' said Jordan after putting the finishing touches on a 300 game at All-Star Lanes.
It was the first perfect game for Jordan at All-Star, where he was bowling as a substitute in the N&W League.
``I played the ball straight up the gutter the whole game,'' Jordan said. ``Normally, I swing the ball more than that, but it just wasn't working in practice.''
Jordan had the 300 in his first game and opened the second game with two strikes before eventually changing his mark. He finished with a 668 set, including games of 180 and 188.
Jordan carries a 210 average at Hilltop Lanes in the only league in which he bowls regularly, but he has bowled in regional PBA Tour events. He says he has rolled 17 perfect games, only two of which have come in league play.
Jordan, 29, does temporary work for Express Personnel Services in Roanoke.
``I've always wanted to go on the tour full-time,'' said Jordan, who has recovered from back surgery in 1994. ``That's been my dream. Hopefully, this will help me get my chance.''
