MUSICAL EVENTS

An organ concert to celebrate the centennial of the American Guild of Organists is scheduled April 14 at 6 p.m. at South Roanoke United Methodist Church, 2330 S. Jefferson St.

Roanoke Valley musicians Joseph Kennedy, Katherine Reier, Ronn Lowe and James McConnell will play during the free recital.

The J. Eugene Young Mass Choir at Jerusalem Baptist Church, 1014 Norfolk Ave. S.W., plans its eighth annual Black and White Musical Sunday at 5 p.m. Those attending are invited to wear black and white clothing. Singing groups from Morning Star, Greater Mount Zion, Maple Street, Hill Street and First Baptist of Hollins churches as well as the host church will participate. SPECIAL EVENTS

``Jesus,'' a full-length film seen by more than 690 million people, will be presented Sunday at 6 p.m. in the First Presbyterian Church sanctuary, 2105 S. Jefferson St.

The award-winning film, produced by John Heyman, was made in Israel and is based on Luke's Gospel. An offering will be taken for summer youth ministries.

An Easter Open House is planned Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Catholic Historical Society building at 624 N. Jefferson St.

The Missionary District Bible School Convention of Southwest Virginia will hold its annual session Friday and Saturday at Shiloh Baptist Church in Salem. The Rev. Herman Word Sr., pastor of Ebenezer Baptist Church, will deliver the annual sermon on Saturday.

Promise Keepers, a national Christian men's movement to promote personal responsibility in work and family, will sponsor a gathering Saturday from 9 until 11 a.m. OUTREACH

Greene Memorial United Methodist Church and Northview United Methodist Church of Hollins are supporting a medical mission couple, Dave and Lidia Jensen, who operate a family practice clinic in Santa Cruz, Bolivia.

Calvary Baptist Church of Roanoke has chosen The Turning Point, the Salvation Army's temporary home for battered women, as its Easter Reach for a Star project. Church members will select the name of a person represented by a star and give items needed for housekeeping or personal care.

Raleigh Court Presbyterian Church will use a sign language interpreter for the hearing impaired each Sunday at its 11 a.m. service. Ellen Austin and Lynnie McCurdy will be the usual signers for the deaf.

Cave Spring United Methodist Church will begin construction of its fifth Habitat for Humanity house in mid-April. The tentative site is Padbury Avenue Southeast. The house is expected to be finished by mid-June.
