STUDENTS READY TO SHOW HOW WELL THEY CAN SPELL

Sixty-one Roanoke Valley students will be among the participants in Saturday's regional spelling bee for Southwest Virginia.

The spelling bee, sponsored by The Roanoke Times, will be held at 9 a.m. at the Roanoke Airport Sheraton Inn. The participants won in classroom and school competitions to reach the regional, and the winner will go to the National Scripps Howard Bee in Washington, D.C.

Botetourt County participants and their schools are: Victor Dooley, Botetourt Intermediate; Amanda McDermott, Breckinridge Elementary; Kristen Kemp, Buchanan Elementary; Jason Matthew Harris, Cloverdale Elementary; Tim Staley, Colonial Elementary; Emily VanNess, Eagle Rock Elementary; and Amanda Leigh Floyd, Troutville Elementary.

Craig County spellers are: Emily Renee Abbott, Craig County Middle; and Jeremy Dale Bradley, McCleary Elementary.

The independent division winners are: Katie Hunt, Home Educators of Rainbow Forest; Aaron Weisberg, North Cross; and Nicholas Sprague, Roanoke Catholic.
