A 27-year-old Wytheville man was killed early Wednesday when the car in which he was riding ran into the back of a tractor-trailer in Bland County.
Michael Duane Smith died at the scene of the accident, which happened about 3 a.m. on Interstate 77 near the Bland exit. The driver, Cecil Lin Dancy, 31, of Hillsville, was flown to a Bristol hospital, where he was in critical condition Wednesday afternoon.
The truck driver, Ricky Lane Handy, 38, of Stuart, was uninjured. State Trooper Joe Thomas said the car ran underneath the tractor-trailer.
