``Michael Lucero: Sculpture 1976-1995'' has opened at Charlotte's Mint Museum of Art where it will run through June 9 before going on to other museums around the country.
A sampling of Lucero's work might include ceramic heads of ``dreamers'' brightly painted with landscapes; a large stoppered jar with facial features and a blond wig; a classical ``conquistador'' figure topped with a gaudy teapot.
Elements and influences from many cultures and many periods dance creatively together in these witty and original works. Around 47 of them have been assembled for this mid-career survey.
The show's catalog, ``Michael Lucero: Sculpture 1976-1995,'' (Hudson Hills Press-Mint Museum, $45 hardcover, $35 softcover) has 72 colorplates and curators' essays.
The exhibition's itinerary:
American Craft Museum, New York, Oct. 31-Feb. 16, 1997.
Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art and Design, Kansas City, Mo., March 30-July 6, 1997.
