Former Los Angeles mayor has stroke
LOS ANGELES - Former Los Angeles Mayor Tom Bradley suffered a stroke Thursday while recovering from heart surgery and was paralyzed on his right side, his doctor said.
Bradley, 78, was in fair condition after the 5 a.m. stroke at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center, said Dr. Fred Alexander.
The surgery was recommended after cardiac specialists said Bradley was weak and grew short of breath when he exercised. All day Wednesday, Bradley's condition was described as good.
The former mayor had his heart attack March 20.
The city's first black mayor served five terms beginning in 1973. His tenure was highlighted by the 1984 Summer Olympics but marred by the deadly 1992 riots, which he called ``the most painful experience of my life.''

U.S. springs forward on Easter this year
WASHINGTON - Sunday, in addition to being Easter, is the date America springs forward to daylight-saving time.
For most of the nation, that means to set clocks ahead one hour before going to bed Saturday night. The penalty for forgetting is an hour's tardiness at church or other Sunday activities.
Standard time returns Oct. 27.
Safety officials remind Americans that changing smoke detector batteries at the same time they change their clocks is a good way to ensure the alarms are ready to sound off in case of fire.
