ARNOLD, Kelly W., 33, of Roanoke, died Friday, March 22, 1996. He was a former resident of St. Augustine, Fla., and he had attended local schools. He was an optical technician. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving on the USS Leahy, and he was a veteran of the Persian Gulf War. Survivors include his mother, Fern Russell Harless; stepfather, William P. Harless; a brother, Kevin Arnold; one sister, Kimberly Arnold LaZerte, all of St. Augustine, Fla.; and his paternal grandmother, Ellen Arnold, Beckley, W.Va. Memorial services will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 6, at Freedom Baptist Church. Croyle Funeral Home, St. Augustine, Fla., is in charge of arrangements

BARRO, Debra Sue Roop, 36, of Honolulu, Hawaii, and formerly of Bedford County, died Tuesday, March 19, 1996. She was born on December 27, 1959, a daughter of Bobby Roy Roop Sr. and Patricia Caroline Tavares Roop of Alexandria. She was the widow of Aurelio Barro. In addition to her parents she is survived by two brothers, Bobby R. Roop Jr., Woodbridge, and James Roop, Alexandria; a sister, Cathy R. Burger, Cincinnati, Ohio; her paternal grandmother, Margaret Roop, Montvale. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 6, 1996, at 1 p.m. at Walnut Grove Union Church with the Rev. BAYSE, Estelle Bussey, 77, of Salem, and formerly of Montvale, died Tuesday, April 2, 1996. Funeral Friday, 2 p.m., Lotz Salem Chapel.

BRICKEY, Mabel Elizabeth, 71, of Salem, died Thursday, April 4, 1996 at Lewis Gale Hospital. Survivors include her husband, James F. Brickey; one son, Ray J. Martin and wife, Violet, of Salem; grandchildren, Ray J. Martin II., April D. Martin, Jennifer M. Martin, all of Salem. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, from 7 to 9 p.m. and funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. in the John M. Oakey and Son Chapel in Salem, Saturday, April 6, 1996 with the Rev. Ira Tolliver officiating. Burial will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park.

BROWN, Lizzie Mae, of Moneta, passed away Thursday, April 4, 1996. She was a member of Leatherwood Primitive Baptist Church, Martinsville, since 1959. She was retired from DuPont with 25 years service. Surviving are her husband, Willie E. (Eddie) Brown of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, William Maynard and Mary Fulcher, Pueblo, Colo; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Ada Beheler, Bassett, Mamie and Raymond Stump, Roanoke; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Charlie and Ethel Hopkins, Front Royal, Elmer and Katherline Hopkins, Roanoke, Edd Hopkins, Roanoke; three grandchildren, Glory, Valerie, Carol. Five great-grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, April 7, 1996, at Lynch Funeral Home Chapel, with Elder Julian Williams, Elder Lane Carter, and Elder Raymond Goad officiating. Interment will follow in Crossroads Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. BRYANT, Fannie Elizabeth, 74, of Buchanan, died Wednesday, April 3, 1996. She is survived by three sons, Roy G. Bryant Jr., Buchanan, Wayne H. Bryant and Frank W. Bryant, both of Roanoke; two daughters, Rene Hudson, Wilmington, N.C., Susan Dooley, Troutville; one sister, Betty Downs, Alexandria; two brothers, Henderson Grissom and Rudy Grissom, both of Richmond; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 6, 1996, 11 a.m., at the Rader Troutville Chapel. Interment will follow in C edar Lawn Memorial Park. DOOLEY, Glen W., 84, of Shawsville, died Wednesday, April 3, 1996, in Lewis-Gale Hospital. A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, April 6, at the Crockett Springs United Methodist Church. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. Arrangements are being handled by the Richardson-Horne Funeral Home, Christiansburg.

FERGUSON, Harold Buford, 78, of Roanoke, passed away Wednesday, April 3, 1996. He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran of the 69th Infantry Division. He was a member of Saint Phillips Lutheran Church, Pleasants Lodge #63 AF & AM, Roanoke Scottish Rite Buddies, Kazim Shrine Temple, past member of the Clown Unit, life member of the V.F.W. Post Commander #1841 from 1982 to 1983, the American Legion Post #248, Disabled American Veterans, The Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels, and the Blinded Veterans Association. He is survived by his wife, Hazel R. Ferguson; son and daughter-in-law, John B. and Lou Anne R. Ferguson; daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth F. and David ``Pete'' Witt; grandsons, Brent Stevens, Andrew Ferguson; a beloved niece, Martha T. Moses; and other loving family members. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 6, 1996, at Oakey's North Chapel, with the Rev. Lynwood Peterson and the Rev. John J. Hamric officiating. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Oakey's North Chapel. FERRIS, Bobbie Ray, 63, of Roanoke, died Wednesday, April 3, 1996. Surviving are his wife, Sarah J. Ferris; daughters, Sheila Booth and husband, Charlie, Leia Ferris and friend, Steven; one son, Richard Ferris and wife, Linda; stepsons, Charles B. Widner, Bobby Wayne Widner; sisters, Gloria Henson, JoAnn Kessler; brothers, Willard Ferris, Leroy Ferris; several grandchildren. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, April 6, 1996, in Blue Ridg e Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Robert Baldwin will officiate. HAMILTON, Belvie Christy, 38, of Parrott, died Wednesday, April 3, 1996, at his home. He is survived by his parents, Otha and Elva Semones, Dublin; two sons, J. C. and Dusty Hamilton, both of Radford; one sister, Cissy Ferrell, Dublin; one brother, Raymond Hamilton, Belspring. A graveside service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Sifford Cemetery in Parrott, with the Rev. W. O. Myers officiating. HARMON, Macie Marshall, 84, of Floyd, passed away Wednesday, April 3, 1996, at Twin County Community Hospital. Survivors are her husband, Alvin Taylor Harmon, Floyd; two daughters, Wanda H. Baker and husband, Dr. Leroy Baker, Zionsville, Ind., Vesta H. Phiel and husband, John Phiel, Arnold, Md.; two granddaughters, Carol Jolee Baker, Cheryl Lyn Baker, Indianapolis, Ind. HARTBERGER, Madeline Weaver, 78, of Roanoke, and formerly of Montvale, died Thursday, April 4, 1996. She is survived by her husband, Daniel R. Hartberger; her daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and Charles Arrington, Richm ond; a special niece, Linda Campbell, Roanoke; a special great-nephew, Randall Gray, Roanoke; a sister, Dove Duncan, Roanoke; her brother and sisters-in-law, William and Helen Weaver, Evington, Dorthey Weaver, Roanoke, Gladys Weaver, Elliston; her brothers-in-law, Charlie Kinzie, Elliston, Clarence Spradlin and wife, Dorothy, Roanoke, James Hartberger and wife, Nellie, Blue Ridge, Roy Hartberger and wife, Alma, Buchanan. Also surviving are several other nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at Lotz Roanoke Chapel 12 noon Saturday, April 6, 1996, with Rev. Rick Elmore and Rev. KIRBY, Heather Marie, 3, of Salem, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, April 3, 1996, at Lewis-Gale Hospital. Survivors include her parents, Randy and Martha Kirby; a sister, Megan L. Kirby, Salem; maternal grandparents, Mabel and Garnett Ratcliff, Salem; paternal grandmother, Emma Kirby, Salem. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 6, at Sherwood Memorial Park, with the Rev. Paul Braisted officiating. LePHEW, Rev. Paul Henry, 64, of Salem, passed away Wednesday, April 3, 19 96. He was the minister at the Body of Christ Church in Salem. He was retired from Roanoke County Transportation Department and had also been employed with the City of Salem. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Stephanie LePhew; his father-in-law, Rev. Ralph O. Nester. He is survived by his wife, Cova LePhew; his daughter and spouse, Melissa and Kenny; his sons and their spouses, Michael and Shirley, Donald and Leita, Tony and Robin; grandchildren, Michael Paul, Heather, Jessie, Franklin, Austin (Sparky), Kenny and Maria; mother-in-law, Sadie Frances Nester; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Aubrey and Shirley Terry, James and Marilyn Kain, Wayne Nester, also numerous nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed by all. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 6, at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home Chapel, Salem, with the Rev. J. P. Hale officiating. LESTER, Edna Baker, 83, of Roanoke County, passed away Thursday, April 4, 1996. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert J. Lester; daughter, Jean Pendry. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Gail Lester, Vinton; three daughters and sons-in-law, Frances Baird, Salem, Gloria and Gene Strickler, Fincastle, Joyce and Frank Howard, Elliston; one s ister, Nellie Bott, Salem; a special niece and husband, Alene and Glenn Mills, Salem; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild. McCAULEY, Angela Lombardi, (Mrs. James B., Jr.), 85, of Roanoke, and a former resident of Larchmont, N.Y., died Tuesday, March 19, 1996. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia McCauley Hague of Roanoke; her son, James G. McCauley of Larchmont, N.Y.; her grandchildren, Dr. Mary A. Hague, Frank J. Hague IV, Dr. Patrick McCauley, Francis McCauley and Jacqueline McCauley, and her brother, Julius D. Lombardi of Schenectady, N.Y. Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated at St. Augustine's Catholic Church, Larchmont, N.Y., on Saturday, Mar ch 23, 1996, followed by burial in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, N.Y

MEADOWS, Frank T., 84, of Roanoke, passed away Thursday, April 4, 1996. Oakey's Roanoke Chapel is handling arrangements.

MORGAN, John William, Sr., 82, (Brig. Gen., Virginia National Guard, Retired), of Hampton, died Wednesday, April 3, 1996. A native of Roanoke County and graduate of Roanoke College, Gen. Morgan had been a Hampton resident since 1947 and was an army veteran of World War II. He retired as a p sychologist from the Hampton Veterans Affairs Medical Center, and was a member and past Post Commander of American Legion Post 31. Gen. Morgan is survived by a daughter, Ellen Morgan Schulz of San Antonio, Texas; a son, John W. Morgan III of Port Huenema, Calif., and four grandchildren, Anne C. Morgan, John W. Morgan IV, Erin D. Schulz and P. Matthew Schulz. A graveside service with full military honors will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 6, 1996, in Parklawn Memorial Park. MORRIS, J. E., (``Ed''), 81, of Martinsville, died Thursday, April 4, 1996. Graveside service 3 p.m. Saturday, Oakwood Cemetery, Martinsville. Arrangements by McKee Funeral Service.

MURPHY, James J., 73, of Roanoke, died Tuesday, April 2, 1996. He was a retired Manager of Administration, Accounting Department, Norfolk & Western Railway. He served in the U.S. Navy as a Chief Petty Officer during World War II. He was Virginia Vice President of the International Brotherhood of Magicians, founder and first President of Ring 222, Roanoke, an affiliate of the international organization, also a member of Assembly 32, Society of American Magicians. The Roanoke Ring No. 222 is now known as the Jim Murphy Ring. He was an active member of Saint Andrew's Catholic Church, one of the original Eucharist Ministers and a Board Member of Saint Andrew's Cemetery. He was a graduate of Roanoke College and an officer of the Kappa Alpha fraternity. He was predeceased by his wife, Charlotte Greeley Murphy, and is survived by a daughter, Mary Susan Robertson, and son-in-law, Jeffery M. Robertson; grandsons, Steven Patrick Robertson and Matthew James Robertson; also, brother, Francis J. Murphy and wife, Mary Rita. A funeral Mass of the Resurrection will be held at Saint Andrew's Church, 11:15 a.m. Monday with Rev. James Cowles officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Memorial Fund of Saint Andrew's Church, or Ring 222, c/o Mr. Ken Greek, 1401 Campbell Ave., S. W., Roanoke, Va. 24016. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday. A rosary service will be held at Oakey's downtown on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
