A Saturday night road trip by three Roanoke-area men ended in the death of one when their car ran off U.S. 220 in Franklin County and overturned Sunday morning.
Ronnie Lee Markham, 30, of Vinton died at the scene of the accident, according to state police.
The wreck happened shortly before 5 a.m. between Martinsville and Rocky Mount, about three-quarters of a mile from the intersection of 220 and Virginia 619, police reported.
Markham did not appear to be wearing a seat belt, police said.
Danny Reed of Vinton said that he, Markham and Todd Boone of Salem were on their way home from Greensboro, N.C. Reed said he was asleep when the accident happened.
Markham was an engineering technician at ITT.
