Training center reunion Friday
HILLSVILLE - Southwestern Virginia Training Center has invited the public to share its 20th anniversary celebration at 10:30 a.m. Friday, when Timothy A. Kelly, commissioner of the state Department of Mental Health, Mental Retardation and Substance Abuse Services, will be guest speaker.
The center serves 17 counties and four cities.
More than 200 children and adults with disabilities live there and receive training.
Literacy training workshop in Marion
MARION - A free tutor training literacy workshop will be offered from 9 a.m. to 12 noon on May 23 and 24 by the Smyth County Adult Literacy Enrichment program at the Smyth-Bland Regional Library.
It will be conducted by SCALE Director Judy Taminger and a certified literacy trainer.

Emory & Henry College Oratorio Choir concert
EMORY - The annual Emory & Henry College Oratorio Choir's spring concert will be at 8:15 p.m. Sunday in Memorial Chapel, featuring Felix Mendelssohn's "Elijah."
The group combines the college's 40-member Concert Choir and 25-member Chapel Choir, under the direction of Charles R. Davis.
This will be the Davis' last performance as choral director and professor of music, a position he has held for 38 years. He will be retiring this year.
Accompanist is organist Anita Coulthard. Brad Dulaney, a junior music major from Shawsville, will sing the part of Elijah. Student soloists will be Brandy Burnette of Church Hill, Tenn.; Melissa Sumner, Christiansburg; Joni Johnson, Rocky Gap; Meredith Bussey, Bristol; Roy Simpson, Marion, and Chris Dunn, Pearisburg.
