ABDUCTION ATTEMPT CLAIMS DROPPED WOMAN DECIDES NOT TO PROSECUTE

A woman who claimed a man abducted her, then had her husband hold the alleged assailant at gunpoint when they later met by chance, has decided not to repeat her allegations in court.

A charge of abduction was dropped Thursday against Howard M. Kidd of McLean after the woman did not show up in Roanoke Circuit Court, according to Kidd's attorney, Melvin Hill.

Last Oct. 23, Karen Creasy told police she was at a convenience store at Fourth Street and Elm Avenue Southwest when a man grabbed her and tried to pull her into his car.

Creasy, who was seven months pregnant at the time, said she was dragged alongside the moving car, sustaining scrapes and bruises before she was able to break free.

About 12:30 p.m. the same day, she and her husband saw the alleged assailant at an ice cream shop at Ninth Street and Highland Avenue Southwest. Police were called to the scene and found Creasy's husband holding a gun on the man.

Kidd, 24, was arrested after Creasy identified him as the assailant.

Chief Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney Betty Jo Anthony said Creasy decided not to prosecute despite the advice of prosecutors and police.
