CALDWELL, Beatrice A., 85, of Whitetop, passed away Thursday, May 9, 1996. Funeral 11 a.m. Monday at Whitetop Baptist Church. Arrangements by Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home, Independence.

COLEMAN, James Edward, 65, of 47 Aldrin Street, Dublin, died Thursday night, May 9, 1996, in the Radford Community Hospital. He was born in Columbus, Miss. on July 30, 1930, and was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Leonard O'Dell Coleman. He was a retired employee of Hercules, Inc., Radford. He was a part-time employee of Wachenhut Security. Mr. Coleman was a veteran, having served during the Korean Conflict. He was a member and past commander of the Radford VFW Post #776. Mr. Coleman was a member of the Dublin Henry Clay Masonic Lodge, and he attended the Bob White Boulevard Church of God, Pulaski. Surviving are his wife, Marie Coleman, Dublin; daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Freddie Ashworth, Radford; son and daughter-in-law, Randall and Tina Stilwell, Max Meadows; father-in-law, Harold Davis, Max Meadows; brother-in-law and wife, Melvin and Jewell Davis, Charlotte, N.C.; two nephews. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. from the Bob White Boulevard Church of God with the Rev. Robert Owens officiating. Burial will follow in the Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin, with VFW Post #776 conducting the military graveside rites. Visiting will be Saturday evening at Stevens Funeral Home, Pulaski, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. The family wishes that memorials be made to the Pulaski County Humane Society or to the American Heart Association. EDMONDS, Thomas Lee, 77, of Woodlawn, passed away Thursday, May 9, 1996, in Hillsville. He was born November 13, 1918 in Wythe County. Mr. Edmonds was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel Lea Edmonds. He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Linda Edmonds, Woodlawn, Roy an d Freda Edmonds, Hillsville; one daughter and son-in-law, Maudie and R. G. Shupe, Austinville; two sisters, Thursa McMillian, Hillsville, Peggy Milam, Pulaski; brother, Garland Clifford Edmonds, Galax; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. HUTCHISON, Judith T., 50, of Dublin, died Thursday, May 9, 1996. She was an employee of New River Industry and was preceded in death by a daughter, Crystal White. Surviving are her husband, Haven J. Hutchinson, Dublin; a daughter and son-in-law, Cheri and Douglas Murie, Allen Park, Mich.; a stepson, Michael Hutchinson, Christiansburg; her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Hubert S. KELLEY, Hobert Kenneth, 90, of Pembroke, died Friday morning, May 10, 1996 in Giles Memorial Hospital in Pearisburg. Born in Giles Co., Va. on January 19, 1906, he was a s on of the late James W. ``Dink"" and Lula Mae McPherson Kelley. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Florence Vest ``Babe' Kelley, was a member of the Pembroke Christian Church, The Odd Fellows Lodge at Pearisburg and retired from Asphalt Road Construction. Surviving are two sisters, Gaye K. Williams of Pembroke and Eunice K. Collins of Christiansburg; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel in Pembroke, with the Rev. Terry Willis and the Rev. Eddie Kendall officiating. Burial will be in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to the Pembroke Christian Church or charity of your choice.

MORGAN, Florence W., (``Flo''), 74, of Riner, died Thursday, May 9, 1996, in a Roanoke hospital. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 11, at the graveside in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, conducted by Rev. Walt Simmerman. She was the beloved wife of William H. Root; mother of Jim Root and Karen Leyh; daughter of Josphine S. and the late Rev. Dr. Alpheus W. Potts, Sr.; sister of Wilson and Carol Potts, Betty Jo and Paul Hosmanek, Christy and Bart Bounous; sister-in-law of Nancy and Bob Wingfield. SETTLE, Mary Evelyn, 82, of North Vernon, Ind., died Thursday, May 9, 1996, at Richfield Nursing Center, Salem. She was born March 7, 1914 in Indianapolis, Ind., daughter of the late James Evans Nicely and Zula Eaton Nicely. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Henry Settle, on Octob er 28, 1975. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in North Vernon. She is survived by a son, Dr. James E. Nicely, Radford; grandson, James Eric Nicely, New York, N.Y.; granddaughter, Kathleen C. SMITH, Charlsie Irene Frazier, 52, of Blacksburg, died Thursday, May 9, 1996, at her home. She was born in Montgomery County on August 21, 1943, and was employed as the office manager of Acco Stone Company, Blacksburg. She was preceded in death by a son, Kevin Lee Smith; and her father, Atlee Frazier. Surviving are a grandson, Kenneth M. Studebaker; husband, Terry M. Smith; one son and daughter-in-law, Michael V. and Lylah Smith; one daughter, Michelle Studebaker; her mother, Ruby Cupp Frazier, all of Blacksburg; five sisters and brothers-in-law, Frances and Glen C. TARTER, Robert Bryan, (Bob), 77, of Roanoke, passed away Thursday, May 9, 1996, at his residence. Mr. Tarter was retired from the Roanoke County Fire Department and was a life membe r of Mount Pleasant Fire Department and a member of Mount Pleasant Rescue Squad. He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Wolford Tarter and is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Robert A. (Bobby) and Mary Tarter, Don and Lois Tarter, all of Roanoke; his granddaughters, Karen and Denise Tarter, both of Roanoke; his sisters, Ruby Smith, Lake Panasoffkee, Fla., Gussie Dixon, Wytheville; a special friend, Nadine Archer. TOONE, Willie Herbert, (``Bill""), 83, of Vinton, died Thursday, May 9, 1996. He was a member of the Vinton Baptist Church and retired from Burlington Industries. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Hilda S. Toone; two daughters, Kathleen Booth, Lynchburg, Arlene Kincer, Roanoke; grandchildren, Mitzie Booth, Richmond, Troy and wife, Lori Kincer, Roanoke, Scott and wife, Bonnie Boo th, Forest; great-grandchildren, Ryan and Trent Kincer, Forrest Booth. TUELL, Rev. Earl M. Jr., 53, of Riner, died Thursday, May 9, 1996, in Radford Community Hospital. He was an employee of the University Unions and Student Activities at Virginia Tech and was an ev angelist with the Appalachian Conference of the Pentecostal Holiness Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl M. and Mabel Cox Tuell. Surviving are his wife, Susan R. Tuell; sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Cindy Tuell, Dublin, Kenny and Kim Tuell, Salem, Chris and Missy Tuell, Blacksburg, Rob Tuell, Riner; four grandchildren, Miranda, Jacob, Steven and Amy Elizabeth; one sister, Dorothy Tuell, Pulaski; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Robert D. WIKLE, Evert L., 77, of Dublin, die d Thursday, May 9, 1996, at his home. He was born on November 30, 1918 in Giles County. Mr. Wikle served in the United States Army during World War II in both the European and Pacific Theaters. He was a well-known businessman in Pulaski County and operated Underpass Exxon Service Station for 35 years. Mr. Wikle was the son of the late Rev. Arthur E. Wikle and Glenna G. Wikle. He was preceded in death by a son, Steven E. Wikle. Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Mary Jo Wikle, Dublin; son, David L. Wikle, Christiansburg; three daughters, Lynn Earles, Dublin, Jo Carol Wikle, Big Stone Gap, Patty Baker, Dublin; two brothers, Paul Wikle, Mayodan, N.C., Rev. John Wikle, Townsend, Tenn.; six grandchildren; mother-in-law, Mary Stoots, Austinville. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. from the Stevens Funeral Chapel with the Rev. WOOTEN, Elwanda Lucille, 73, of Salem, passed away Thursday, May 9, 1996, in a Roanoke hospital. She was born March 1, 1923. She was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters. She is survived by her husband, Harry R. Wooten; three daughters and sons-in-law, Beverly Kaye and Wayne Lees, Shirley and Grant Morley, Diane Marie and Delmas Smith; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Bert and Willis Blankenship, Lacy and Daisy Blankenship; one granddaughter; three grandsons; one great-granddaughter; one great-grandson; two brothers-in-law, Pat Wolfe and Mason Meadows; two sisters-in-law, Ann and Fanny Blankenship; numerous nieces and nephews.
