VICTIM HAD 13 GUN WOUNDS CITY'S FIRST MURDER CHARGES FILED FOR '96

An autopsy revealed that the 20-year-old man killed in a Northwest Roanoke house Sunday suffered 13 gunshot wounds.

Marvin T. Williams died from his injuries shortly after the shooting in the 1400 block of Grayson Avenue.

Williams was hit in the head, chest, abdomen, back and left arm, said Dr. David Oxley, deputy chief medical examiner for Western Virginia, on Monday.

His girlfriend's brother, Eric Tyrone Waller, 25, has been charged with first-degree murder in the shooting - the first murder charges filed in the city this year.

Police earlier gave this account of the shooting:

About 4:25 p.m. Sunday, Waller arrived at the home of his sister, Sharon Wilson. Williams asked Waller "if he was there to straighten him out." Police said Waller then shot Williams in the face. After Williams fell to the ground, Waller fired several more shots.

Waller left the scene and turned himself over to police. He is being held without bond in Roanoke City Jail. His preliminary hearing is June 6.
