A former Salem fire captain was killed in an accident Tuesday night on Spillway Lane in Roanoke County.
Charles Gordon King Jr., 70, was opening or closing the gate to a cow pasture when his 4-wheel-drive rolled backward and pinned him under it, Lt. T.W. Haynes said. A neighbor reported the accident.
The medical examiner said it looks like an accidental death, but the investigation will continue, Haynes said.
King apparently was at the pasture to tend some cattle when the accident occurred.
