A kids' dig will be held in Saltville during August to give young people between the ages of 9 and 16 years hands-on archaeological experience in a region where work has yielded clues to early plant, animal and human inhabitants of North America.
The registration deadline is July 1. The digs at the Saltville research site will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Aug. 5 and Aug. 6. Each is limited to 24 participants.
The digs are sponsored by the Museum of the Middle Appalachians. Information and registration packets are available at the museum and the following public libraries: Smyth-Bland Regional, Washington County, Wythe-Grayson Regional and Bristol, or by calling the museum at 496-3633.
