DRYER IS SUSPECTED CAUSE OF GILES COUNTY HOUSE FIRE

A fire, believed to have been started by a clothes dryer, burned everything inside a house on Lurich Road and left the roof slightly caved in, according to a firefighter.

Douglas Fairwell, a member of the Glen Lyn Volunteer Fire Department, did not work the fire that burned Kelly Perdue's house, but said no one was hurt in the blaze.

Fairwell said Perdue came home and put some clothes in the dryer. Perdue then took a nap and awoke to a house full of smoke.

Firefighters from four Giles County departments - Glen Lyn, Rich Creek, Narrows and Pearisburg - arrived at the fire about 11:30 a.m. and fought the blaze for about two hours.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated, but the clothes dryer is suspected as the cause, Fairwell said.
