The congregation of Shiloh Baptist Church in Salem will mark its centennial Friday through Monday. Begun in buildings on Alabama and Main streets, it moved to the present site at 40 E. Burwell St. in 1910.
The celebration will begin with a 7:30 p.m. service on Friday with the Rev. Kenneth B. Wright, of First Baptist Church on North Jefferson Street, as the guest preacher.
The Sunday services at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. will be led by the Rev. Edward D. McCreary, pastor emeritus of Mount Carmel Baptist Church in Richmond and a retired professor at Virginia Union University School of Theology. The Shiloh Combined Choir will sing for the morning service and the Men's Chorus will provide music in the afternoon. A reception will follow the afternoon service.
The final event of the 100-year celebration will be a banquet at the Salem Civic Center on Monday night at 7. The speaker for that event will be the Rev. E.T. Burton, pastor of Sweet Union Baptist Church in Roanoke. The $20 tickets may be obtained by calling 389-0409.
Shiloh was served for 40 years by the Rev. E.H. Glaspie of Salem. For the past two years, the Rev. Adrian E. Dowell has been pastor.
