ARTHUR, Joe B., 65, of Salem, passed away Sunday, June 2, 1996. He is survived by his wife, Jean Arthur; son and daughter-in-law, Neal and Linda Arthur of Vinton; a grandson, Dakota William Arthur; brothers, James Arthur of Goodview and Bill Arthur of Richmond; a sister, Carrie Hairfield of Hopewell; brothers-in-law, Rudolph C. Dooley of New Mexico and Richard E. Dooley of Maryland, and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services w ill be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 5, 1996, at Lotz Salem Chapel, with the Rev. Dr. J. Edwards officiating. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and all day Tuesday at the funeral home. CANTRELL, Ruby Aldridge, 75, of Salem, died Saturday, June 1, 1996, at Camelot Hall. She is survived by her husband, Rex Otis Cantrell; her mother, Elsie Aldridge of Salem; a daughter-in-law, Bernice Clites of Seattle, Wash.; two grandsons, Timmy Clites and Jeremy Clites of Seattle, and several cousins. Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Tuesday, June 4, at the Lotz Salem Chapel, with the Rev. Carl Zigler officiating. Interment will be in Sherwood Memorial Park. CROMER, Henry Lee, 87, of Blacksburg, died Sunday, June 2, 1996 at his home. He was born in Montgomery Co. on March 4, 1909 to the late Charles Edward and Lillie Mae Carter Cromer and is survived by his wife, Edith A. Cromer; two daughters and son-in-law, Lisa M. Cromer, Blacksburg and Julie and Larry W. Quesenberry, Christiansburg; two sisters, Virginia Lovern and Reba Costigan, both of Bla cksburg; two brothers, Wilson Cromer, Roanoke, Jack Cromer, Blacksburg; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, June 4, 1996 at 11 a.m. in the Gateway Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dewey O. Weaver, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the Westview Cemetery. JANOSKO, Patricia Ann Myers, 63, of Roanoke, passed away Saturday, June 1, 1996 in her home. Beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, she was a member of First Baptist Church, where she sang in the Sanctuary Choir for 17 years. There she was also a Sunday School teacher, member of the Nominating Committee and former Vice-President of the Choir. Mrs. Janosko retired in June of 1995 from Weaver, Weaver, Vascik and Kleiner, where she was the business manager for 18 years. She is survived by her husband, Andrew Daniel; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jeffrey Daniel and Kathleen, Stephen Eric and Charlene; one daughter, Mary Ellen; two grandsons, Daniel Karl and Jeffrey Kyle, all of Roanoke; two sisters, Blanche Pearcy of Adkins, Irene Alley of Savannah, Ga. She was preceded in death by her mother, Ellen Myers and two brothers, Brooks and Lewis Myers. Mrs. Janosko leave behind many friends who will miss her warmth, wit and caring. Friends of the family may call at Oakey's South Chapel on Monday from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A celebration of her life will be held at First Baptist Church in Downtown Roanoke on Tuesday at 12 noon, with Dr. Charles G. Fuller officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Burial Park.
JOHNSON, Jane Cassell, of Roanoke, passed away Sunday, June 2, 1996, at her home. She was preceded in death by her parents, Haden and Gladys Cassell, and a sister, Ruth Cassell Hale. Jane was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, and is survived by three daughters, Janet Kingery and Julia Stone of Roanoke and Glo ria Parry of Blacksburg; her grandchildren, Ronald Carr, Jill Overstreet, Keith Umberger, Beth Fariss, Tara Yopp, Paige Shartzer and Chris Stone; six great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Bobbie Gearheart of West Virginia and Naomi Frazier of Roanoke. A graveside service will be held in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Roanoke County, at 10 a.m. Monday, June 3, with H. Fred Stone officiating. KESLER, Dorothy Crawford, 86, of Roanoke, living at Friendship Manor, died Saturday, June 1, 1996. Mrs. Kesler was a retired secretary from Adams Construction Company, and was preceded in death by her husband, John B. Kesler, and a son, James G. Kesler. Surviving are her son and daughter-in -law, John William (``Bill"") and Nancy Meyer Kesler of Charlotte, N.C.; her grandchildren, Leslie Michelle Kesler of Raleigh, N.C., Monica Kesler Phillips of Charlotte, N.C., and John Charles Kesler of Greenville, N.C., and her nieces, Dorothy Murden Dickens and June Murden Blick of Wilmington, N.C. Funeral services will be held at Oakey's North Chapel at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 5, with the Rev. William B. Ramey Jr. of Raleigh Court United Methodist Church officiating. NICHOLS, Gladys Knott, 86, of Bedford, passed away Saturday, June 1, 1996, in a local nursing home. She was born July 14, 1909, in Baltimore, Md., a daughter of the late John Wilmer Knott and Annie Mae Knott. She was a member of St. Johns Episcopal Church and was the widow of James Robert Nichols Jr. She is survived by a daughter, Barbara; a sister, Lilly Cramblitt and her husband, Charles, of Baltimore; a half brother, Warren Hiss and his wife, Jeannie, of Pleasant Grove, Md.; two grandchildren, Mary Napier Lovejoy and her husband, Ken, of Chesterfield and David Napier of Providence Forge, and a great-grandson, Zachary Napier of Chesterfield. He was a member of the Lexington Church of God of Prophecy. Mr. Southers worked 43 years for the City of Lexington.
