BLAIR, Glendye Earnest, 77, of Blacksburg, died Tuesday, June 4, 1996 at Radford Community Hospital. Born in Wythe County on November 14, 1918 to the late Frank Blair, Sr. and Elsie Phibbs Blair, Mr. Blair was a native of Wythe County and retired from V.P.I. & S.U., with 18 years of service as an instrument maker in the Mechanical Engineering Department. He was preceded in death by one brother and sister-in-law, Roy Clinton and Irene Porter Blair. Surviving are his wife, Pearl Bryant Blair; two sons and daughters-in-law, Frederick Glendye and Nancy Blair, Christiansburg and Ernest Franklin and Ricky Blair, Oliver Springs, Tenn.; one daughter and son-in-law, Glenda Blair Caldwell and Palmer Caldwell, Christiansburg; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Vera Blair Ashford and Cadell Ashford, Max Meadows, Doris Blair Jones, Greenville, S.C., Judith Blair Bond and Lawrence Bond, Hillsville and Avis Blair Shockley and Martin Shockley, Franklin; one brother and sister-in-law, Frank Blair, Jr. and Kate Bralley Blair, Max Meadows; nine grandchildren, Frederick Glendye Blair, Jr., Mickey Charles Blair, Michele Caldwell Morrell, Pamela Lynn Caldwell, Valarie Blair Hieldebrand, Penny Lynn Blair, Doris Puckett Bugg, Eugene Leslie Puckett and Sarah Puckett Linkous; ten great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, June 6, 1996 at McCoy Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Darrell Joyce officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg.

BROADY, Laura Eva Hunt, of Roanoke, formerly of North Holston, died Friday, May 31, 1996, in Roanoke. Before moving to Roanoke, she lived in Norfolk for more than 40 years with her husband, Edgar H. Broady, who preceded her in death. She retired from the Norfolk City School System where she had served as librarian in several junior high schools. She is survived by a niece, Barbara Jean (the Right Rev. Franklin) Turner, Philadelphia, Pa.; two sisters-in-law, Edith Hunt, Patterson, N.J. and Gloria Wilson, Bristol; brother-in-law, Roy Dickerson, Montclair, N.J.; devoted cousins and caregivers, Rev. and Mrs. Ulas N. (Delois) Broady and other members of the Broady family, Roanoke; loving caregivers, Mr. and Mrs. Willie Johnson, Norfolk; other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 7, 1996, at 1 p.m. at Fairview Baptist Church, Glade Spring. The body will be placed in the church at noon for viewing. Burial will be at Mount Rose Cemetery, Glade Spring. A visitation hour will be held in Roanoke on June 6, 1996, from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Hamlar-Curtis Funeral Home.

BUCHHOLTZ, James Edwin, 64, of Roanoke, passed away Sunday, June 2, 1996 after an extended illness. He was a Korean War Veteran and a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi and Washington & Lee University Law School. He was a member of St. James Episcopal Church. He was preceded in death by his father, John T. Buchholtz, Sr., his uncle, Henry Beard and his aunt, Alice Beard. He is survived by his wife, JoAnn S. Buchholtz; sons and daughters-in-law, Bryan and Pam Buchholtz, Fort Wayne, Ind., Cameron and Lisa Buchholtz, Bossier City, La.; son, John T. Buchholtz, Roanoke; three grandchildren, Jason and Tiffany Hayes and Caitlin Buchholtz; his mother, Maggie Buchholtz; his aunt, Hazel Beard; one brother and sister-in-law, John T. and Shirley Buchholtz, Jr.; one sister, Hazel B. Myers; one niece, Alice Lynn Jones; two nephews, Troy and John Thomas Myers; two great-nieces, Courtney and Holly Jones; one great-nephew, Joshua Myers. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 6, 1996 at Oakey's North Chapel, with the Rev. Anthony Seel and the Rev. Al Whitelock officiating. DONALD, Rachel Smith, 79, of 4156 Beach Drive, Niceville, Fla., and formerly of Bedford, entered into eternal rest Sunday, June 2, 1996, at the home of her daughter. She was born in Bedford Co unty on December 20, 1916, a daughter of the late Frank A. Smith and Bertha Creasy Smith. She was a member of the Bedford Presbyterian Church, and was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde E. Donald. She had lived in Florida since 1992. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Linda G. and James T. Bohon, Niceville, Fla.; two granddaughters, Kimberly Luallen of Spring Hill, Fla., and Michele Bohon, Niceville, Fla.; two sisters-in-law, Nellie Smith and Ruth Smith, both of Bedford; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, June 8, 1996, at the Carder-Tharp Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Joseph S. Gaston officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery. GOAD, Trent Stevenson, 68, of Willis, passed away Tuesday, June 4, 1996. He was a retired beef cattle farmer and a member of Buffalo Mountain Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his w ife, Sadie D. Goad of Willis; his mother, Hattie K. Goad of Willis; a special niece, Camellia W. Nolen of Floyd; a great-nephew, Christopher R. Nolen of Richmond; special cousins, Paul and Doris Goad of Willis, and several other nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 6, 1996, at Buffalo Mountain Presbyterian Church, with the Revs. Gary Marshall, S. G. Holt and Brian Childress officiating. HUBER, Violet Lockhart, 76, of Salem, passed away Sunday, June 2, 1996. She was previously employed with Andrew Lewis Family Restaurant and the Regina Motor Lodge. She is survived by her mother, Ethel B. Lockhart, Salem; grandd aughter, Teresa Graham, Shawsville; great-grandchildren, Rebecca, Ricky and Rachel Graham, all of Shawsville; very special friends, Ken Hamby, Winston-Salem, N.C., Cornelia Wills, Moneta, Mark Hartman, Roanoke and Peggy Jackson, Salem; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Rudolph and Ruth Sheffield, Lynchburg. JONES, Carl Stewart, 84, of Radford, died Tuesday, June 4, 1996 at his home. He was a retired carpenter. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Blair Jones, and a great-granddaughter, Kelsey Jones. Surviving are his wife, Minnie H. Jones, Radford; three sons and daughters-in-law, Carl Rudie and Peggy Jones, Radford, Willard G. and Rita Jones, Dublin, Norman D. and Tenny Jones, Radford; one daughter, Minnie G. KERNODLE, Morris Grant, 76, of Roanoke, passed away Monday, June 3, 1996. Survivors include his devoted wife, Odessa James Kernodle of Roanoke; one brother, Jerry Kernodle of Danville; three sisters, Helen Travis of Danville, Pauline Lipscomb of Richmond and Hazel Kernodle Price Walker of Hempstead, N.Y.; two sisters-in-law, Mae Byrd Kernodle and Virginia Kernodle of Danville; two brothers-in-law, Sylvene Lipscomb of Richmond and Emmett Walker of Hempstead, N.Y., and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends in Danville and Roanoke. LINK, Eva Wilkerson, 85, of Vinton, died Monday, June 3, 1996, in a local hospital. She was the widow of Dan I. Link and a member of the Vinton Baptist Church. Mrs. Link was a retired hostess of the Vinton War Memorial. Surviving are a dau ghter and son-in-law, Carolyn L. and Staley Pennington, Vinton; two grandchildren, Daniel Victor Pennington and wife, Barbara Bowers Pennington, Vinton, Ryan Allen Pennington; and his fiancee, Kimber Scott, Roanoke; two sisters, Ercelle Barrow Tunstall, South Hill, Eleanor Cavell Moran, Falls Church. Funeral services will be at Vinton Oakey's Chapel 1 p.m. Thursday, June 6, 1996 with Dr. William L. Ross and the Rev. David Elks officiating. Interment will be in Mountain View Cemetery, Vinton. LOY, Mary Lou, 67, of Cleveland, Ohio, and Calabash, N.C., died Tuesday, June 4, 1996, in a Bedford County nursing home. She was born September 29, 1928, in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of the late Philip Harper and Marie Byers Harper. She was the widow of Gerald Loy. She is survived by a son, Jerome H. Loy and his wife, Terri Loy, of Goode; a daughter, Susan K. Loy and her husband, Ron Ayers, of Moneta, and three grandchildren, Harperl J. Loy, Hannah T. Loy and Harrison G. Loy. A memorial servic e will be conducted at 7 p.m.Wednesday, June 5, 1996, at Carder-Tharp Chapel, Bedford, with the Rev. Kirk A. Balin officiating. ROWE, Betty Lee, of Blacksburg, a faithful servant of the Lord Jesus Christ, passed on to her reward of eternal life in Heaven on Monday, June 3, 1996. She was born on July 16, 1917, in Minneapolis, Minn. to Benjamin Lee Jr. and Ellen Lee. Betty was preceded in passing by her husband, William Lewis Rowe, as well as her parents and a brother, Jack Lee. Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Ellen and Gary Harkrader of Christiansburg; two sons and daughters-in-law, the Rev. Stephen and Karen Rowe of Singleton, Australia, David and Tina Rowe, Blacksburg; granddaughters, Kristen and Stephanie, both of Blacksburg; a sister, Ann Whitley, Blacksburg; nephew, Gerry Lee and family of Auburn, Calif.; and all her brothers and sisters in Christ on earth. A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Trinity Baptist Church in Christiansburg, followed by a memorial service at 7:30 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Monroe Hedrick. WALDRON, Giovanni Nathaniel, infant, of Roanoke, passed away Monday, June 3, 1996. He was born on January 26, 1996. He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Waldron. A private service will be held at a later date. Arrangements by Oakey's North Chapel.

WALKER, Hubert Lee, 73, of 1401 Hill Crest Drive, Blacksburg, formerly of Narrows, died Monday, June 3, 1996, in the Montgomery Regional Hospital, Blacksburg. He was born in Giles County on September 16, 1922, and was the son of the late Albert and Isabelle Walker. He was a retired operator with the Hoechst/Celanese Fibers Company Plant at Narrows after 48 years of service. He was a veteran of World War II and was an active member of Mt. Tabor and Bethel United Methodist Church in Pearisburg. He is survived by his wife, Hazel Topsale Walker of Blacksburg; a son, Hubert Lee Walker Jr. of Blacksburg; a sister and her husband, Lila and Harvey Hicks of Roanoke; a sister-in-law, Beatrice Boyd of Danville; and a host of nephews, nieces, and friends. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Riffe's Funeral Service in Narrows, with Rev. John Price, Rev. Lorenzo Hill and Rev. William Lee officiating. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. WEEKS, Clarence Gilbert, 78, of Floyd, died Monday, June 3, 1996, at his home after a lengthy illness. Mr. Weeks was retired from Citizens Telephone Cooperative, and was an active member of Laurel Branch Church of the Brethren having served as Superintendent, Sunday School teacher and Deacon. He was a charter member and past Chief of the Floyd County Fire Department. Survivors include his wife Ruby Yopp Weeks of fifty-nine years; two daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and G.W. Davis of Goode, Ethel and Leighton Casteel of Roanoke; two sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Mary Weeks, Robert and Dawn Weeks, both of Floyd; eight grandchildren, Sandra Arrington, Joyce Fincher, Barry and Philip Casteel, John and Valerie Weeks, Morgan and Brittany Weeks; eight great-grandchildren, David and Kevin Arrington, Sarah and Ryan Fincher, Alan and Lyndsey Casteel, Gary Caldwell and Philip Casteel Jr.; two brothers, Posey Weeks of Alum Ridge, James Weeks of Roanoke; two sisters, Ilene Belcher of Roanoke, Hava Epperly of Lakeland, Fla.
