Commencement: 7 tonight, Auburn High School
58th class to graduate from present building;
123rd class to graduate from Auburn area
Valedictorian: Erin Bull
Salutatorian: Meggen Johnson
Number of graduates: 52
Number going to college: 40
Number going into military: 0
Number going to work: 12
Class president: Angie Fale
Fale describes her class as lively, to say the least.
"They joke around a lot, and live for fun. They're not exactly a serious class," she said.
And yet, a majority of the class is headed to college, something Fale takes pride in. She and some of her best friends are headed to Radford University; others will attend schools farther from home, like the College of William and Mary.
"I think people are sad to lose touch, but they're ready to get on with the next part of their lives," she said. "It's kind of scary in a way, not knowing what's going to happen."
Tonight, Fale will try to capture all those feelings in her commencement speech. As of Wednesday afternoon, she hadn't exactly gotten the speech down on paper, but she knew the gist of it.
"I think I'll reflect back on where we've been and how far we've come," she said. "Like when we were first in the ninth grade, we were so scared just to be there, and now we're starting at the bottom all over again."
