AET Inc. buys new equipment
Applied Extrusions Technology Inc. of Boston said Wednesday it has bought a new $3.5 million high-speed, wide-width machine for metalizing the plastic films it makes at its plant in Covington.
The company has developed several new metallized films over the past year, helping to prompt the purchase of the new machine, AET President and CEO Thomas Williams said. The films are used in packaging of snacks and confections and for bottle labels.
Use of the films is increase because of their attractive appearance so the company expects an "exciting future" for the films, Williams said. The company employs 300 people in Covington.

Martin Bros. lands contracts
Martin Bros. Contractors of Roanoke has been awarded the contract for construction of an addition to the Franklin County Courthouse in Rocky Mount for the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court.
Martin also is building a new store in the New River Valley for Roanoke-based Grand Piano & Furniture Co.
A third project is a new building at 702 Shenandoah Ave. to house the Total Action Against Poverty Head Start program.
Balzer & Associates is the architect for the last two projects.
