ATKINS, Pierce Jackson, 88, of Austinville, died Wednesday, June 26, 1996 in the Wythe County Community Hospital. He was born i n Wythe County, the son of the late John Jackson Atkins and Della Irene Shupe Atkins. He was retired from the Gulf Western Company with 37 years of service and served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Siloam Church of Christ. He is survived by his wife, Hazel Patterson Atkins of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Bobby Lee and Joan Atkins, Wheelersburg, Ohio, Roger Duane and Sandra Atkins, Roanoke; four grandchildren, Beth Wines, Vickie Caudill, Debbie Craft, Michael Atkins; four great-grandchildren, Chad Wines, Ashley Caudill, Kayla Craft, and Kara Beth Craft. BECKNER, Mae Powell, 91, of Martinsville, formerly of Roanoke, died Wednesday, June 26, 1996. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Lee Powell and Earl James Beckner, also a son, Robert ""Bobby"" Powell. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Francis P. and L. Kenneth Whitlock of Martinsville, and a number of half sisters, nieces and nephews. BOLING, Stephen Gordon, 50, of Blacksburg, died Tuesday, June 25, 1996 at his home. He was born in Bluefield, W.Va. on October 25, 1945. He graduated from Virginia T ech and was an insurance agent for many years. He most recently owned a telecommunications business. He was preceded in death by his father, John Robert Boling. Surviving are his wife of 31 years, Paula S. Boling; three daughters and sons-in-law, Jill and Mark Shank, Elizabeth and Duke Ray, Juliet and Richard Bevan all of Raleigh, N.C.; one daughter, Kristen Anne Boling, Blacksburg; three grandchildren, Audrey, Cierra, Austin Ray all of Raleigh, N.C.; his mother, Helen M. Boling; one brother, John Joseph Boling; one nephew, Gregory Boling all of Radford. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday, June 28, 1996 at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Donald Lemay and the Rev. John W. McCandliss officiating. COMPTON, Gladys Booth, 83, of Pearisburg, died Tuesday, June 25, 1996 in Giles Memorial Hospital following a long illness. Mrs. Compton was born in Honaker, Va. on December 8, 1912 and was a daughter of the late Jack Booth and Etta Breedlove Booth. She was the widow of Coy Compton. She is survived by two daughters, Jeanette Wolynetz, Mission Viego, Calif., Patsy Munsey, Pearisburg; five sisters Pansey Patterson, Fort Myers, Fla., Loucile Booth, Johnston City, Tenn., Evangeline Shepherd, Johnston City, Tenn., Ruth Smith, Honaker, Jesse Mae Hanna, Pearisburg; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, June 29, 1996 in the Givens Funeral Chapel, Pearisburg with the Rev. Mike Mitchener officiating. ELLETT, James Henderson, 85, of Seaford, Del., died Friday, May 31, 1996, at his apartment in the Methodist Manor House, Seaford. He was born in Blacksburg, the son of the late Maude Henderson Ellett and Robert Thaddeus Ellett. Following his graduation from Virginia Tech with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry in 1931, he was employed as a foreman in the electroplating division of the General Electric Company in Virginia. A year later, he returned to VPI and studied for his Master's in Chemistry. He taught Chemistry and American History at Blacksburg High School. After receiving his Master's he worked at the E. I. DuPont Company at Waynesboro as an operator. He entered the Army as a Lieutenant in 1941. His tour of duty in ordnance kept him in the states, Canada and Mexico. In 1945 he was made commanding officer at Plumbrook Ordnance Works in Sandusky, Ohio, a position he held unt il the war ended, at which time he was a Major. Mr. Ellett returned to DuPont at Waynesboro and worked in various supervisory capacities at the Waynesboro plant, the May plant in Camden, S.C., the Chattanooga plant, and the Seaford plant. He retired in 1974, after which he was a consultant to Pharr Yarns in McAdenville, N.C. from 1974 to 1983. The Elletts moved to Seaford in 1954. He was involved in community and service organizations. He took pride in his volunteer service with Seaford's Read-Aloud program which works with pre-school children. He was a volunteer with Nanticoke Memorial Hospital for many years. He was a member of the Seaford Golf and Country Club and served on many volunteer committees and councils for the Methodist Manor House. He was a member and officer in Presbyterian churches in each state in which he lived. In Seaford he was on the Board of Stewards of Mount Olivet Methodist Church. He was a charter member and elder of Seaford Presbyterian Church and a life member of Hiram Lodge #21, AF & AM. His wife of 59 years, Cynthia ``Cynnie'' Buford Ellett, died in 1995. His daughter, Sara Kent Ellett Rogers, died in 1994. Survivors include a son, James Henderson Ellett Jr. of Franconia; a daughter, Cynthia Buford Ellett Wagner of Roanoke; a sister, Sussanne Ellett Berkaw of Charleston, S.C.; and four grandchildren. A memorial service and Masonic service was held Sunday, June 23, at the Seaford Presbyterian Church. Graveside services will be held Saturday, June 29, 1996, at noon from the Sunset Cemetery, Christiansburg. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Seaford Presbyterian Church, 701 Bridgeville Highway, Seaford, Del. 19973, or to the benevolence fund of the Methodist Manor House, 1001 Middleford Road, Seaford, Del. 19973.

GATES, Edward Lewis, (``Tiny''), 43, of Washington, D.C., formerly of Goodview, passed away Saturday, June 22, 1996, in Washington Hospital Center, Washington, D.C. He is survived by two sisters, Trena Gates, Washington, D.C. and Rosemary G. Johnson, Moneta; five brothers, Calvin Gates, John Gates, both of Roanoke, James Gates, Moneta, Thomas Gates, Bedford, and Joe Gates, Goodview; a host of other relatives and friends. GRIMES, James L., 79, of Roanoke County, passed away Tuesday, June 25, 1996, at a local hospital. Mr. Grimes was formerly of Harrisburg, Pa., and was a veteran of World War II. He is survived by his wife, Reva Bower Grimes. A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday, June 28, at the St. Matthews Cemetery, Riner, conducted by the Rev. Richard H. Horne. HALL, Richard T., (``Dick''), 80, of Radford, died Tuesday, June 25, 1996, at Radford Community Hospital. He was a retired employee of Radford Arsenal, was a graduate of Va. Tech, a member of the Montgomery County Moose Lodge #1470, a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during World War II. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Harry Hall. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Juanita G. Hall; two daughters and sons-in-law, JoElla H. and Richard John of Fincastle, Barbara H. and Butch Stults of Richmond; one son and daughter-in-law, Richard W. (Rick) and Roslyn Hall of Christiansburg; three sisters, Ruth Dishner of Marion, Frances Hudson of Glen Burnie, Md., and Peggy Atkins of Atkins; two brothers, John Hall of Atkins and Charlie Bill Hall of Welch, W.Va.; seven grandchildren, Lisa Shroyer, Beverley Clarkson, Leslie, Brian and Stacie Olander, Jake and Josh Hall; two great-grandchildren, Tony David and Kali Jo Shroyer. HOGAN, Ralph Edward, ``Eddie,'' 45, of North County, Roanoke, died Tuesday, June 25, 1996 in a local hospital. He served in the U.S. Army and was formerly with Sunnybrook Garage and most recently worked with Alca-Tel Manufacturing . He bowled in the North Roanoke area bowling leagues. He was predeceased by his mother, Doris Alls Hogan. Surviving are his father, Garland R. ``Buck'' Hogan; a daughter, Crystal Hogan; two sons, Garland E. Hogan and James W. Hogan, all of Roanoke; two sisters, Mrs. Harvey (Judy) Keene, Troutville, Mrs. Berkley (Brenda) Thomas, Charlotte, N.C.; a brother, Garland L. Hogan, Roanoke, and his wife, Pollie Hogan; a step-daughter, Stephanie Dunbar, Roanoke; and a step-granddaughter. McCAULEY, Dorothy McCoy, 80, of Front Royal, died at her home on Wednesday, June 26, 1996. Interment will be held in Panorama Memorial Gardens. Mrs. McCauley was born on January 23, 1916 in Long Branch, West Va., the daughter of the late John Sherman and Maude Malinda Lively McCoy. Surviving are one daughter, Mary Frances McCauley of League City, Texas; one brother, Daniel McCoy of Monroe, N. C.; one sister, Stella West of Greenville, S.C.; and a number of nieces and nephews. NUNN, Claude A., 72, of Richmond, died Tuesday, June 25, 1996. He is survived by his wife, Bette J. Nunn; a daughter, Rev. Madelon Nunn-Miller of Cresskill, N.J.; a son, Charles D. Nunn of Charlotte, N.C.; five grandchildren, Benjamin and Andrew Nunn-Miller, both of Cresskill, N.J., Tiffini, Branden, and Cassandra Nunn, all of Charlotte, N.C.; his mother, Madeline Breeding Nunn of Pulaski; two sisters, Nancy Mabe and Dorothy Roop, both of Pulaski; four brothers, Robert and Rudolph Nunn, both of Pulaski, Ross and Ellis Nunn of Rochester, N.Y. Mr. Nunn retired from the IRS as the Assistant Chief of Virginia U.S. Treasury Intelligence Division, and also was a retired Investigative Accountant for the Virginia State Bar. PERKINS, John Stewart, (``Johnn y""), 73, of Pearisburg, died Wednesday, June 26, 1996 in Giles Memorial Hospital following a long illness. Mr. Perkins was a veteran of WWII and served in the 661st Tank Destroyer Battalion. He retired from the Giles County Public School System with over 32 years of service. Johnny was born at Ripplemead, Va. on September 10, 1922 and was a son of the late Robert Lee Perkins and Maggie Riggs Perkins. He is survived by his wife, Lillian Reynolds Perkins of Pearisburg; five brothers, Gene Perkins, Pearisburg, Ed Perkins, Pearisburg, Herbert Perkins, Pearisburg, Amos Perkins, Pembroke, Clarence Perkins, Pearisburg; one sister, Leona Rock, Pearisburg; two granddaughters and husbands, Angela and Jimmy Fillinger, Pearisburg, Tammy and Drew Pennington, Pearisburg; six great-grandchildren. PRZEPASNIAK, Michael E., 75, of Roanoke County, passed away Tuesday, June 25, 1996 in a local hospital. He was a retired employee of Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company, a Army Veteran of World War II, and a member of Our Lady of Nazareth Catholic Church. Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Mildred Przepasniak; daughter, Karen Ann Przepasniak, both of Roanoke County; two sons & daughters-in-law, Neal & Barbara Przepasniak of Pittsburgh, Pa., Michael and Susan Przepasniak of Buffalo, N.Y.; four grandchildren, John, Michelle, Ann Marie, and Janine Przepasniak; brother, Victor Przepasniak of Buffalo, N.Y. QUESINBERRY, Cleados H., 81, of Route 2, Meadows of Dan, died Tuesday, June 25, 1996 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was born in Carroll County on June 5, 1915 to the late Heath Quesinberry and the late Mattie Dickerson Quesinberry. He was a retired self-employed construction contractor. Mr. Quesinberry is survived by his wife, Dell B. Quesinberry of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Harold (Gay) Hawkins of Wytheville and Mrs. Ron (Ann) Cockram of Meadows of Dan; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren. SADLER, Lillian Dawn, 69, of Poplar Hill community, Pearisburg, died Wednesday, June 26, 19 96 in the University of Virginia Hospital, Charlottesville. She was born March 7, 1927 at Narrows, the daughter of the late Maude Myrtle Albert. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She is survived by her husband, Bittle K. Sadler Jr.; two sons, Ronnie Ballard, Hardy; Thomas Ballard, Roanoke; one daughter, Mrs. Donna Lynn Martin, Pearisburg; one stepson, Johnny Sadler, Radford; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Deborah Stafford, Roanoke, Mrs. Sharron Reed, Pearisburg; two sisters, Mrs. Etha Dean Hines, Peterstown, W.
