Parents of children entering kindergarten this fall will be required to present proof of the child's immunization status.
In order to enter school, a child must have had a minimum of three DPTs (diptheria, pertussis, tetanus) with one dose administered after the fourth birthday; 3 OPVs or IPVs (oral polio or inactivated polio vaccine) with one dose administered after the fourth birthday; and 2 MMRs (measles, mumps and rubella). The only children exempt from this law are those with medical or religious exemptions.
Immunizations are available at no charge from any of the following county or city health departments: Floyd, 745-2141; Giles, 921-2891; Montgomery, 381-7100; Pulaski, 980-1490; Radford, 831-5774.
