ATKINSON, Raymond, 81, of Vinton, passed away Friday, July 5, 1996. Graveside services 11 a.m. Tuesday, Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Arrangements by Updike Funeral Home, Bedford.

AYER, John W., Sr., 75, of Roanoke, died Saturday July, 6, 1996. Arrangements by Oakey's South Chapel.

BURKE, John Edward, 47, of Marion, died Saturday, July 6, 1996, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Salem. He was a lifelong resident of Smyth County and a former employee of the Brunswick Corporation. He is survived by his wife, Diana Burke of Blacksburg; three daughters, Toni Burke and Sherri Burke of Chilhowie and Kandi Burke of Blacksburg; his mother, Thelma Burke of Chilhowie; four sisters, Judy Williams of E vington, Sara Talley of Shelby, N.C., Pat Baumgardner of Vinton and Sue Wood of Wilmington, N.C.; one brother, Stanley Burke of Blacksburg, and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Arrangements are incomplete, and will be announced later by Seaver-Brown Funeral Service. Seaver-Brown Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements

BUSH, Elmer W., 67, of Roanoke, died Friday, July 5, 1996. Mr. Bush was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church. Surviving are his sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Michelle Bush, Bath County, David and Lola Bush, Randall and Melinda Bush, all of Franklin County; his brothers and sisters and their spouses, Leonard L. and Kathryn Bush, Hardy, Dorothy B. and Ralph Parsons, Delmer L. Bush, Dianne B. Carpenter, all of Roanoke; his granddaughter, Kristi Bush; his grandsons, Luke Bush, Matthew Bush, John Bush, Adam Bush, Michael Bush and Ryan Bush, and one great granddaughter. A graveside service will be conducted at 12 noon Monday, July 8, 1996, at Gearhart Cemetery on Mayfield Drive. The family will receive friends at Lotz Roanoke Chapel from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday.

DAVIS, Wannette Evelyn, 31, of Hyattsville, Md., formerly of Franklin County, Va., died Thursday, July 3, 1996. She is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence (Nannie) Davis, Rocky Mount; one sister, Mrs. Nancy Jernigan, Severna Park, Md.; three bothers, Raymond Patterson, Stefon Davis, both of Rocky Mount, Sgt. Clarence A. Davis, Turkey; one niece; three nephews; aunts; uncles; cousins; other relatives, and friends. Funeral services will be conducted on Monda y at 12 noon at the FIrst Baptist Church, with the Rev. Samuel Anderson officiating. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 11 a.m. to 12 noon. Interment will be in Antioch Church Cemetery. There will be no visitation at the funeral home

HOWLETT, Patr icia F., 63, of 1565 Pecan Lane, Kernersville, N.C., died Friday, July 5, 1996, in Winston-Salem, N.C. Previously from Radford, Va., she was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland. She was predeceased by her parents, David Anthony and Belinda Law Fitzgerald; her former husband, James F. Howlett, and two sisters, Mary Stelmaszyk and Florence Fitzgerald. She is survived by five daughters and sons-in-law, Anne and Jeff Hall, Pulaski, N.Y., Joan and Biff Medlin, Kernersville, N.C., Mary and Jim Plott, Pulaski, Va., Barbara and Paul Hayden, Richmond, Cara and Brian Newman, High Point, N.C.; two sons and a daughter-in-law, John and Lucy Howlett, Pulaski, Va., and Brian Howlett, Greensboro, N.C., and 13 grandchildren. She is also survived by four sisters, Elizabeth Reicherter, Tampa, Fla., Agnes Houghton, Somerville, Mass., Bridget Reicherter, Bellmore, N.Y., Maureen Madigan, Swampscott, Mass., and one brother, David Fitzgerald, Somerville, Mass. A private memorial will be held Monday, July 8, in Winston-Salem. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be sent to the Human Service Alliance, 3983 Old Greensboro Road, Winston-Salem, N.C. 27101.

HYDE, Sandra K., 45, of Blacksburg, passed away Friday, July 5, 1996. Arrangements by Seaver-Sanders and Mullins Funeral Home, Radford.

LEWEY, Venie Virginia, 91, of Shawsville, died Friday, July 5, 1996, at Brookmeade Retirement Center. Miss Lewey was a retired school teacher, having taught in the Montgomery County Public School system for 47 years. She was a member of Crockett Springs United Methodist Church, and is survived by a niece-in-law, Virginia Peters of Bluefield, W.Va.; nieces and their husbands, Nancy and W. G. Spigle, Roanoke, Betty and Hymon Curtis, Louisville, Ky., Stella Elmore and Thelma Morehead, both of Ripplemeade, Va.; two nephews and their wives, Garland and Frances Morehead, Christiansburg, Rayburn and Carrie Lewey, Berea, Ky.; a special friend, Aubrey Epperly, Christiansburg. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, conducted by Mr. Bill Williams. Friends may call after noon Sunday at the Richardson-Horne Funeral Home in Christiansburg. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 4 until 7 p.m.

RHEA, William Gratton, (``Bill""), 72, of Clifton Forge, died Friday, July 5, 1996. Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday at Nicely Funeral Home Chapel. ROGERS, Cleveland M., 74, of Buena Vista, died Friday, July 5, 1996. Arrangements by Lomax Funeral Home.

SABREE, Clarence Rashid, 35, of Roanoke and formerly of Jacksonville, Fla., passed on Friday, July 5, 1996, in Lewis-Gale Hospital. He was a graduate of Florida State University and worked as an auditor with the Internal Revenue Service. Clarence Sabree was a faithful member and dedicated treasurer of the Muslim community at Masjid An-Nur. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Wesley Long Jr., and his grandparents, Josie Bell Wilkerson, and the Rev. and Mrs. Charles Wesley Long Sr. He is survived by his mother, Inshirah Sabree; sisters, Nijyah Shawn Sabree of Roanoke, Pamela Long, Tonya Long and Shan Long of Jacksonville and Peebles Long of New Orleans, La.; brothers, Paul Jones and Brian Jones of Roanoke, Peter Long, Thomas Long, Charles Long, Dexter Long and Dennie Long of Jacksonville; aunts and uncles, Iola Long, Hattie Mae and Ted Smokes, Francis Jenkins, Shirley Parnell, Edward Long and Arthur Long of Jacksonville; a sister-in-law, Vicky Jones; his godmother, Marian Bickers of Roanoke; a godbrother, Fred Bickes of Roanoke, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 9, 1996, at the Hamlar-Curtis Chapel, with Iman Correlli Rashid officiating. Burial will be in Williams Memorial Park. TREW, Thad, (``Pat""), 73, of Route 2, Hillsville, passed away Friday, July 5, 1996, at Twin County Regional Hospital. He was the son of the late Earnest M. Trew and Teresa Tarter Trew. He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Duncan Trew of Hillsville; one daughter, Carol M. Trew of Ridley Park, Pa.; one son, John M. Trew of Blacksburg, and two brothers, Ted Trew of Bryan, Texas, and Phil Trew of Fort Worth, Texas. Funeral services will be private. Arrangements by Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel, Hillsville.

TYLER, James Harvey, 88, of Salem, passed away at his home on Friday, July 5, 1996. Mr. Tyler was a member of Fort Lewis Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon, taught the adult mens Sunday School Class and served on the Board of Trustees for over 50 years. He worked at the Naval Ship Yard in Portsmouth and at N&W Railroad in Roanoke. Mr. Tyler was the former owner of Salem Farm Supply. He was preceded in death by his wife of over 50 years, Fleda R. Tyler, and four brothers. He is survived by one daughter, Elaine R. Lee; two sisters, Marie Newton and Helen Tyler; two grandsons and their wives, Mark Allen and Rhonda Lee, David Tyler and Gail Lee; two great-grandsons, Jonathan James Lee and Scott Tyler Lee; other family members include many nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held Monday, July 8, 1996, at 11 a.m., at Sherwood Memorial Park. Following interment, a memorial service celebrating his life will be held at Fort Lewis Baptist Church at 12 noon, with the Rev. Leonard Southern officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2 until 5 p.m. at the John M. Oakey and Son Funeral Home in Salem. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the building fund at Fort Lewis Baptist Church, 4215 W. Main St., Salem, Va. 24153.
