GUARD UNIT TO HOLD OPEN HOUSE TODAY

The local National Guard unit will hold an open house and demonstration for the public from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at the Armory building, located at the corner of College and Depot streets in downtown Christiansburg.

Activities for adults and children are planned. Members of the local unit (Company B, 1st Battalion, 116th Infantry) will exhibit military equipment and vehicles throughout the day.

Soldiers also will perform exercises as part of their training for the Expert Infantryman's Badge.

The unit recently returned from training at California's Mojave Desert, where it was named the best among Virginia's Army National Guard units. The open house is designed to give the public a better understanding of their mission.
