COALITION VOTER GUIDES CHALLENGED

The Interfaith Alliance, which calls itself ``a grass-roots coalition of mainstream people of faith,'' is taking on the Christian Coalition.

The alliance announced last week it plans to distribute millions of voter guides to counter what it says are biased voter guides by the Christian Coalition.

``We will not remain silent while religious political extremists attempt to hijack one of our nation's great political parties,'' said the group's president, the Rev. Albert Pennybacker.

Spokesman Jon Paone said the group isn't sure how many voter guides it can afford. But he admitted, ``We're never going to be able to match the Christian Coalition.''

The Christian Coalition distributed 10 million presidential and 10 million congressional voter guides during the primaries.
