Two days of aerobatics by radio-controlled model airplanes have been scheduled for this weekend at the former AT&T plant site in Pulaski County.
Participants will be arriving as early as 8 a.m. Saturday and Sunday; some, with lights on their aircraft, will still be flying them after dark.
Hosts for the event are the Pulaski County Flying Aces, whose members built and fly their scaled-down planes ranging from $300 trainers to $3,000 biplanes.
Other clubs from throughout the United States are invited to this so-called Family Fly-In, and 40 to 50 flyers are expected to launch 60 to 80 planes during the two days.
"It's a sport like people getting together for fishing or horseback riding," said Roger Vass, a local club member who got involved about three years ago.
The public is welcome to come and watch free of charge. Vass said there is plenty of shade, but he suggested bringing a lawn chair.
