It will be a GOP gathering Saturday to rival the annual Acres of Democrats when Republicans from three congressional districts gather for buffalo barbecue, speeches and fellowship.
The gathering will include Republicans from half of the geographic area of the state and 27 percent of the GOP leadership in Virginia.
Guest speakers will include Del. Allen Dudley of Rocky Mount; Patrick Muldoon, the Republican candidate for the 9th District congressional seat, and George Landrith, an Albemarle County lawyer running against two other candidates for the 5th District seat being vacated by L.F. Payne, D-Nelson County.
Other invited guests include:
* Three candidates for lieutenant governor: Coleman Andrews, a Northern Virginia businessman; John Hager, a longtime GOP activist from Richmond; and Del. Jay Katzen, R-Warrenton.
* Attorney general candidates Gil Davis, a Fairfax lawyer; and state Sen. Ken Stolle of Virginia Beach.
* Chairmen from the 5th, 6th and 9th congressional districts, state Party Chairman Gary Forbes, and Jerry Kilgore, the state secretary of public safety.
Political analysts Bob Denton of Virginia Tech and Tom Morris, president of Emory & Henry College, have also accepted invitations.
The gathering gets under way at 4 p.m. at Floyd County High School. Gates open at 3 p.m. The high school gym has been reserved in case of rain. Besides buffalo barbecue, hot dogs and all the fixings, the Bolt Brothers will entertain, performing bluegrass and gospel songs. Tickets are $6 for adults; $3 ages 4-10; and free for children ages 3 and under.
