AGNOR, Emma Virginia, 86, of Buena Vista, died Monday, July 29, 1996. Funeral 2 p.m. Friday at Lomax Funeral Home.
ANGELL, Josephine Mays, of Roanoke, died Monday, July 29, 1996. She was born September 18, 1908, in Nelson County. She was the daughter of the late Hill Z. and Pearl Lenora Mays of that county. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Elbert Angell, who was originally from Franklin County. Survivors include her brother, Preston Mays and his wife, Ellie, Jacksonville, Fla.; her sisters-in-law, Alma Mays, Lovingston, Lozelle Mays, North Garden, Elva Mays, Waynesboro, Mildred Angell Milliron, Callaway; her brothers-in-law, James Angell, Seaford, Wilson and his wife, Beatrice Angell, Callaway. Although she had no children of her own, she was always proud to claim many Mays and Angell nephews and nieces as her family. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Thursday, August 1, 1996, at Oakey's North Chapel with Rev. Danny Dugan officiating. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Oakey's North Chapel.
BALL, Willard, Jr., 73, of Honaker, passed away Tuesday, July 30,1996 at his residence. Born at Honaker, he was a son of the late Willard Ball, Sr. and the late Tina Wallace Ball. He had resided in the Honaker area his entire life and was a member of the First Baptist Church at Honaker. He was a 1942 graduate of Honaker High School and was a member of the Pruner Masonic Lodge #254 A.F. & A.M. of Honaker. He was a member of the Board of Directors of Signet Bank and was a coal broker, the former owner and operator of Ball Coal Company and co-owner of Russell Oil Company of Honaker. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Earl Ball. Survivors include his wife, Lorene Hart Ball, of the home; two daughters, Rebecca Steffey of Rosedale, Va. and Cathy Gent of Honaker; three sons, Michael Ball and Tim Ball, both of Honaker and Steve Ball, D.D.S., of Rosedale; three sisters, Lora Gay Lee, Fort Wayne, Indiana, Anna Pearl Ball and Sue Kiser, both of Honaker; his twin brother, Wilmer Ball of Roanoke; and ten grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Va., with the Rev. H. Gray Smith, Jr., and Brother Les Ritchie officiating. Interment will follow in Ketron Memorial Gardens at Lebanon, Va. Pallbearers will be Scotty Kiser, Greg Kiser, David Lee, Larry Ball, Robert Taylor and Kirby Smith. BROWN, Willie Jessie, 83, of Marion, died Monday, July 29, 1996, at the Cedar Lawn Convalescent Home in Abingdon. She was a member of the Electa Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star. DAGENHART, Marshall Richard, 59, of Rt. 7, Forrest Rd., Martinsville, went to be with the Lord Sunday, July 28, 1996. He was a member of the Martinsville Church of God, graduate of Dublin High School, attended Virginia Tech University. He was the owner of the Laurel Park Outlett Furniture Store in Martinsville. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Dagenhart, in 1983; and a sister, Delorse Sullivan, March 18, 1995. Marshall is survived by Betty Dagenhart of Roanoke; daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Rick Anderson of Roanoke; very dear friend, Madie Eanes of Martinsville; mother, Rose Carden Dagenhart of Martinsville; sisters and brothers-in-law, Reginald Sullivan, Donna and Rev. Ron Hill of Rocky Mount, Della Sue and Eddie Crabtree of Martinsville; very special nieces and nephews; numerous other family members and friends. EURAL, Ida Frances, 90, of Willingboro, N.J., died Friday, July 26, 1996 at Rancocas Hospital, Willingboro, New Jersey. She was born in Campbell County, Va. on February 27,1906, was a lifetime resident of Roanoke, Va. until September of '89, when her son took her to live with them in New Jersey because of her declining health. She worked for the Roanoke Public School Cafeteria for over 20 years, for Tap's cafeteria, as a Foster Grandparent and Foster Parent. She cared for 77 foster children. She is survived by her son, the Rev. Dr. W. Constance Eural and daughter-in-law, Ella Louise Eural and children; two daughters, Esther Veatric Saunders and son-in-law, Junius Saunders and children, of Roanoke, Frances Mary Wilson and children; 17 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; seventy-seven foster children; one sister-in-law, Eula B. Eural of Washington, D.C.; and friends. Funeral services will be held Friday, August 2, 1996, at the First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. K. B. Wright, Pastor, officiating. FORBES, Thomas McKinley, 85, of Route 2, Rocky Mount, departed this life to be with his Lord and Saviour on Monday, July 29, 1996. He was preceded in death by his sister, Ossie Morris, and a daughter-in-law, Betty Walker Forbes. Mr. Forbes was a member of Antioch Church of the Brethren. Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Irene Arrington Forbes; three sons and daughters-in-law, Claude Forbes, Salem, Norman and Emily Forbes, Bassett, Larry and Carolyn Forbes, Rocky Mount, Bonnie Brooks Forbes; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, and special nieces and nephews. GIVENS, Jane Kenny, 6 4, of Roanoke, passed away Tuesday, July 30, 1996. She was preceded in death by her father, Willard Kenny. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Ellen and Michael Urbanski of Roanoke; a son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Anita Givens of Manassas; her mother, Pleasant H. Kenny of Roanoke, and five grandchildren, William and Sarah Urbanski, and Christopher, Matthew and Allison Givens. She graduated from Emory and Henry College and taught for several years in the Grayson County School System. She was a charter member of the New River Pioneer Chapter of D.A.R. She was a former chairman of the Wythe Grayson Regional Library Board, and a former Council member for the Town of Independence. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 1, 1996, at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel in Hillsville, with interment in Woodlawn Cemetery. HARTMAN, Jesse Monroe, 80, of Roanoke, passed away Monday, July 29, 1996. Mr. Hartman was a member of Garden City Baptist Church. He was an army veteran of WWII. He retired from South Roanoke Lumber Company. Surviving are his wife, Esther G. MAYNARD, W. Douglas, 68, of Eden Drive, Roanoke, passed away Tuesday, July 30, 1996, at his home. He was born September 5, 1927, in Charlotte, N.C. Doug was a meat cutter in various stores, including Swift and Company, A & P, Farm Fresh, and Earl's Market, for a period of 50 years. In Shenandoah he owned D & D Market and was a member of the Lions Club. He later retired as a supervisor with ten years service from Little Creek Amphibious Base Commissary. After retirement, he worked part time for Food Lion. Surviving are five daughters, Patsy Gustafson, Norfolk, Millie Poole, Richmond, Christine L. Wiggins, Blue Ridge, Lorraine M. Overton, Virginia Beach, Diane M. Levins, Chesapeake; four sons, Tommy Maynard, Ohio, David Maynard, Virginia Beach, Rick Maynard, Chesapeake, Joey Maynard, Chesapeake; 16 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his mother, Thelma Hill Maynard; father, Jacob Carl Maynard; and brother, Numa Charles Maynard. MOORE, Robert Wayne, (``Bobby''), 46, of Glasgow, died Monday, July 29, 1996, in the Stonewall Jackson Hospital. Mr. Moore was born June 9, 1950, in Rockbridge County, a son of Helen Milliner Moore of Glasgow and the late Elmer Mat thew Moore. He was a member of the Glasgow Presbyterian Church, a former member of the Glasgow Fire Company, and the Glasgow Moose Lodge. Surviving in addition to his mother are his daughter, Brigitte G. Moore of Glasgow, who makes her home with her mother, Joanne Moore; sister and brother-in-law, Lois M. and Jake Harris of Raphine; a brother, Stephen M. RAKES, Richard Lee, Sr., of Lynchburg, died Tuesday, July 30, 1996 in St. Johns Nursing Home. He was the husband of Sandra Cassell Rakes. Born in Bassett, Va. December 23, 1935, he was a son of Leotta S. Rakes of Roanoke and the Late Richard F. Rakes. He was a member of Quaker Memorial Presbyterian Church. He graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and University with a B.S. Degree in Business Administration. He served in the U. S. Army as a Second Lt. at Fort Bliss, Texas and completed his military service in the Virginia National Guard, serving as a Captan Battery Commander in Altavista and a Staff Officer in Chatham with the 3rd BN 246th Arty. Dicks career in the insurance industry spanned 35 years. He was a certified insurance counselor and a chartered property and casualty underwriter. He was most recently employed through the Perry Agency and Campbell Insurance. In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by three sons, Richard Lee Rakes, Jr. of Lynchburg, Charles Dillard and his wife Donna Rakes of Rustburg, John Edward and his wife Angela Rakes of Lynchburg; one brother, David and his wife Yvonne Rakes of Norcross, Ga.; three sisters, Jeraldine R. Patterson of Martinsville, Jacqueline and her husband, George Shorter of Bassett, Cathy R. Cronk of Akron, Ohio; and two stepgrandchildren. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Fort Hill Memorial Park, with Dr. Earl Martin officiating. The family will receive friends today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Diuguid Waterlick Chapel.
