A 16-year-old Pulaski County boy was flown to a Roanoke hospital after his car slid into the path of a cement truck Wednesday afternoon.
Erin William Phillip of Dublin was on Virginia 1030, just off Virginia 100, in Dublin about 4:30 p.m. when he hit an oil-slicked patch of road near the state highway office and lost control, state police said. He hit the truck head on. An afternoon rain shower had brought oil to the road surface.
Phillip was flown to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, where he underwent surgery Wednesday night. He was listed in critical condition, according to a nursing supervisor.
The front and driver's side of Phillip's car were heavily damaged, Trooper Rick Motsinger said.
The truck driver, who was returning from a delivery, was not seriously injured.
