Attorney General Jim Gilmore has concluded that time ran out three years ago for the state to seek criminal charges against three former Virginia Retirement System officials in the disputed takeover of RF&P Corp.
Gilmore's announcement Wednesday that the statute of limitations had lapsed in the case in 1993 concluded nearly four years of investigation by federal and state authorities.
Gilmore also rejected demands by former VRS trustees Jacqueline G. Epps and Mark T. Finn and former administrator Glen D. Pond that taxpayers cover $1.4 million in legal bills from the investigation. - Associated Press
