BARGER, Dixie Neel, 70, of Roanoke , died Friday, August 16, 1996 at her home. Born in Ceres, Va., she was a daughter of the late William T. and Edith Umbarger Barger. Mrs. Barger was a long-time member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. Surviving are her husband, Robert F. Barger; a daughter and son-in-law, Candice B. Puckett, and Michael E. Puckett, Salem; son and daughter-in-law, Timothy F. and Donna S. Barger, Riner; four grandchildren, Jennifer Barger, Emilie Barger, Alexander Puckett, and Tyler Puckett; three sisters, Virginia Covert, Geneva, Fla., Vida Foglesong, Ceres, Va., and Elizabeth Allen, Fairfax; several nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 4040 Williamson Rd., Roanoke, Va. 24012. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, August 19, 1996 from Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. The Rev. Kenneth P. Lane Jr. will officiate. Interment will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Oakey's North Chapel. BOBBITT, Clyde, 66, of Hardy, died Wednesday, August 14, 1996, at his home. Born January 30, 1930, he was a son of the late Harry and Ola Perdue Bobbitt. Mr. Bobbitt was also preceded in death by his wife, Valera Robertson Bobbitt; and a daughter, Lois J. Bobbitt; and a sister, Mary Louise Bobbitt. Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, June and Roger Cook, Phyllis and Marion Robertson, all of Hardy, and Beatrice and James LaPrade of Rocky Mount; three sons and daughters-in-law, Beverly and Terri Bobbitt, Vinton, Wendell and Margaret McGuire, Moneta, Glenn and Darlene McGuire of Hardy; four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Gracie and Willie Dillon of Hardy, Ruby and Bobby Rankins, Vinton, Betty and Kenny Underwood, Roanoke, Nellie Mills and Fiance, Daniel Pruitt, Hardy; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Gilbert and Shirley Bobbitt, Junior Bobbitt, all of Hardy; two brothers-in-law, Olen and wife, Louise Robertson of Hardy, and Wesley Robertson, Roanoke; one sister-in-law and husband, Thelma and Calbert Fisher of Hardy; 16 grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday, August 17, 1996, from Epworth United Methodist Church with Rev. Scott McLain and Rev. Melvin Harris officiating. DILLON, Nancy Johnson, 51, of Roanoke, passed away Friday August 16, 1996 in a Roanoke Hospital. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Tom (Cindy) Byrne, Goodview; grandson, Christopher D. DOUTHAT David Hank, 75, of Roanoke, died Friday, August 16, 1996 in a local hospital. He was a retired machinist with Litton Industries, and a veteran of WW II serving in the U.S. Air Force. Mr. Douthat was a member of St. Andrews Catholic Church. Surviving are his wife, Mary Ikenberry Douthat, Roanoke; daughter, Phyllis Jean Douthat, Richmond; two brothers, Raymond and Roger Douthat, both of Roanoke; two sisters, Lillian Manning and Grace Gauley. A prayer vigil service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in Oakey's South Chapel. A funeral mass of the resurrection will be held at St. Andrews Catholic Church, 11 a.m. Monday with the Rev. Randy Rule officiating. Entombment will follow in St. Andrews Diocesan Cemetery. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to a favorite charity. FROST, Lyndle Rorrer, 88, of 1746 Newbern Road, Pulaski, died Friday, August 16, 1996, in Pulaski Community Hospital. Born in Radford August 6, 1908, she was the daughter of the late Pat Sherman Rorrer and Emma Morefield Rorrer. She was a member of the Aldersgate United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hayward Clayton Frost. She is s urvived by one daughter and son-in-law, Eileen and Chester B. Jackson Jr., Pulaski; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. from Thomas M. Seagle & Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. Kim Goddard and Rev. Jack L. Stevens officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. GREENWAY, Verlie R., 81, of Roanoke, passed away Thursday, August 15, 1996, at his home. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Hypes Richards Greenway and was a member of the Good News Baptist Church. HICKMAN, Emma Goldsby, 87, of Lexington, died Friday, August 16, 1996, at Stonewall Jackson Hospital. Bor n in Rockbridge County April 18, 1909, she was the daughter of the late Harvey Franklin Goldsby and Susan Elizabeth Entsminger Goldsby. Mrs. Hickman was a member of Lauderdale A.R.P. Church, and was the widow of James Albert Hickman. Surviving are three daughters, Jane H. Sowers, Johnson City, Tenn., Martha H. Boswell, Roanoke, Becky H. Grow, Harrisonburg; one sister, Christine G. Bruce, Roanoke; special niece, Barbara Sinwell, New Kensington, Pa.; two special nephews, Bob Kemp and Albert Kemp and wife, Mary, both of Fairfield; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, August 18, 1996, at 2 p.m. from the Lauderdale A.R.P. Church with Rev. Zeb Carson Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Timber Ridge A.R.P. Cemetery. HYLTON, Gertrude Lois Sneed, 84, of Buchanan, d ied Friday, August 16, 1996 in Fincastle, Va. She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Howard Hylton, and a son, Melvin Lee Hylton. She retired as a cafeteria worker from James River High School. Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Homer Harlos Hylton, William David and Della Hylton, Carl Edwin and Trudie Hylton, James A. Hylton, all of Buchanan, Alton Dale and Joyce Hylton, Big Stone Gap; thirteen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; thirteen stepgreat-grandchildren; sisters and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Tom Ballard, Evelyn Sneed and Myrtle Smith, all of Oak Hill W. Va. and Viola Cook, Buchanan. HYPES, Raymond Junior, 69, of New Castle, passed away Friday, August 16, 1996. He is survived by his wife, Gladys D. Hypes; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Levi and Mary Hypes, of Pembroke, Frank and Juanita Hypes, of New Castle; two sisters and brother-in-law, Yvonne and Andrew Lucas, of Newport, Varina Ryan, of Virginia Beach also several nieces and nephews. JEWELL, Arietta Mae, 84, of Draper, died at her home Wednesday, August 14, 1996. She was the daughter of the late Roy and Emma Flowers and was of the Church of God Faith. She was raised at Topeka, Kan. and had lived at Ingleside, W. Va. and Gillam, W. Va., Baltimore, Md. and Draper, Va. She was preceded by her husband Cyrus C. Jewell in 1975 and one daughter, Shirley Busteed in 1991. Survivors include three daughters, Deana Raish, of League City, Texas, Deborah Davis, of Mt. Airy, Md., Linda Merwin, of Norfolk; three sons, Dudley C. Jewell, of Chesapeake, Asa Jewell, of Baltimore, Md., Jerry Jewell, of Radford; seven granddaughters, Charlotte LeBarre, Brenda Lawson, Linda McCord, Rebecca Preston, Dorothy Collison, Donna Jewell, Karen Jewell; ten grandsons, Vincent Jewell, David Jewell, Wayne Jewell, Clayton Clark, Charles Clark, Jr., John Clark, Asa Jewell, Jr., Mark Jewell, Paul Davis, Jr., Derek Minor and eight granddaughters, Brenda Clark, Ginger Clark, Blakely Lepski, Natalie Lepski, Michael McCord, Autumn LeBarre and Malory Jewell and Katie Clark; ten grandsons, Danny LeBarre, Seth LeBarre, Gregory McCord, Clayton Clark, Jr., Andrew Clark, Nicholas Clark, Asa Jewell, III, Bradley Jewell, Tyler Jewell, Dylan Minor. JOHNSON, Annie Belle Gooch, 89, of Lexington, and widow of John Johnson, died Thursday, August 15, 1996, at Stonewall Jackson Hospital. She was born June 4, 1907, in Lexington, a daughter of the late John H. Gooch and Anna Peyton Gooch. Mrs. Johnson was a member of First Baptist Church, Baptist Training Union, Young Ladies Club of First Baptist Church, and assisted the Junior Choir. Surviving are a daughter, Barbara Ann Gooch; and a sister, Mrs. Mabel G. Alexander, both of Lexington. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Monday, August 19, 1996, in the First Baptist Church with the Rev. LaVert H. Taylor officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. MALLOY, Marjorie Staples, 87, of Hillsville, passed away Thursday, August 15, 1996, in Twin County Regional Hospital, Galax. She was a member of Hillsville Presbyterian Church. She was a school teacher for many years. She is survived by a son, John Malloy of Missoula, Mont.; brother and sister-in-law, Ashley and Alverta Staples of Christiansburg; sister-in-law, Mattie Lee Staples, Cloverport, Ky.; brother-in-law, Duane Ward Sr., Vero Be ach, Fla.; several nieces and nephews; a host of friends. PERRY, Claude Benjamin, 31, of Washington, D.C., formerly of Wytheville, died Sunday, August 11, 1996, in Washington, D.C. He was a member of the A.M.E. Methodist Church of Wytheville, graduated from George Wythe High School Class of '84 and a graduate of Wytheville Community College with a degree in management. He formerly managed Jenhollys Restaurant in Wytheville and worked in the restaurant management business in Washington, D.C. Survivors include his mother, Kathaleen Johnson, Wytheville; his father, Claude Perry Sr., Wytheville; two brothers, Rudolph Johnson and William Everett Johnson, both of Wytheville; five sisters, Ethel Brown, Mount Airy, N.C., Janet Braxton, Cora Kendall, Kathaleen Perry, Claudia Strickland, all of Wytheville; grandmother, Hontas Austin, Wytheville; a host of nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. RICHARDS, Carson Howard Jr., 57, of Glasgow, died Thursday, August 15, 1996, in the Veterans Medical Center, Salem. Born July 12, 1939, in Paige County, he was the son of the late Carson Howard Richards Sr. and Catherine Marie Stoneberger Richards. Mr. Richards was a U.S. Army veteran, and was a member of Fairfield Presbyterian Church. Surviving are his wife, Alice G. Richards, Glasgow; son, John Wayne Richards, Glasgow; two sisters, Doris Marie Kite, Shenandoah, Joan Pearl Lucas, Staunton; brother, Vance T. Richards, Luray. WRITTENBERRY, Lessie Boyce, 86, of Roanoke, died Wednesday, August 14, 1996 in a local nursing home. She was the widow of Luther Writtenberry, and was preceded in death by a grandson, Steven L. Rhinehart. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Jewell W. and Donald W. Rhinehart, Roanoke; granddaughter and husband, Kathy and Dr. Stephen P. Tigani Sr., Kensington, Md.; grandson, Stuart W.
