ROBBERY SUSPECTED IN KILLING

Investigators think robbery was the motive in the slaying of an airman stationed at Langley Air Force Base.

A motorist found the body of Airman 1st Class Eric Michael Nesbitt in a remote area west of Yorktown on Saturday.

Nesbitt had been shot eight times in the arms, stomach and back with a small-caliber semiautomatic pistol, said Capt. Ron Montgomery of the York County sheriff's office.

Nesbitt's wallet and 1995 Nissan pickup are missing, investigators said.

He last was seen by co-workers late Friday, leaving his part-time job at an auto parts store.

Tara Brown, a fellow airman who also works at the store, said Nesbitt's best friend was expecting to meet him at the base that night. But Nesbitt never made it.

Nesbitt, 21, of Gilbertsville, N.Y., was a transportation specialist at Langley.
