DAVID NIED was bombed for eight runs as Durham waxed the Avalanche, 10-3.
David Nied was rocked for nine hits and eight runs Tuesday night as the Durham Bulls used a seven-run inning to beat the Salem Avalanche 10-3 in a Carolina League baseball game.
Since being assigned to Salem, Nied (2-3) has not shown the promise that made him a starter for the parent Colorado Rockies. He struck out five, walked three, uncorked a wild pitch and committed an error Tuesday night.
The Bulls sent 11 batters to the plate in the sixth inning and rapped six hits in erasing a 3-1 deficit. Ramon Nunez led off the inning with a home run and later singled in the same inning as Durham turned its deficit into an 8-3 lead. The Bulls added a pair of runs in the seventh inning off Salem reliever Scott LaRock.
Shortstop Link Jarrett had a pair of hits and two runs batted in for the Avalanche.
