ACCIDENT VICTIM IDENTIFIED

Authorities have released the name of the Christiansburg man killed Tuesday in a logging accident.

Richard Kulik, 39, died soon after a portion of a tree struck his abdomen causing massive internal injuries, according to Lt. Neal Turner of the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office.

Kulik, who was employed by Victory L.L.C. of Hillsville, was cutting a large oak tree that had already been felled when a portion of the tree kicked back and hit him, Turner said.

Turner said local officials from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration are investigating the accident.

Kulik is the fourth person to die in the New River Valley as the result of an industrial accident this year.
