Theater workshops
ABINGDON - Barter Theatre is planning two fall seminars for Saturday, one for children and one for adults.
Theater Fun for Kids is for participants between the ages of 7 and 12 years. It will use the creative energies of young people and encourage them to trust their instincts while exploring their imaginations, through theater games and other methods.
Acting for Adults provides a base on which an inexperienced actor can build. It will include exercises involving warm-up routines, concentration, voice and speech and acting techniques.
Both classes meet from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Further information is available by calling 628-2281, ext. 327.
Oratorio auditions
The Oratorio Society will hold auditions for the coming season on Sept. 7, 8 and 9, Sept. 14 and Sept. 16. Auditions will be held at Meadows Presbyterian Church on Angus Road in Charlottesville. Call (804) 973-7447.
The Society will give two performances this season, featuring the Vivaldi ``Gloria'' on Dec. 15 and Bach's ``St. Matthew Passion'' on March 16.
Mill Mountain auditions
Regional auditions for Mill Mountain Theatre's productions of ``The Christmas Cup,'' ``A Christmas Carol'' (musical) and ``All in the Timing'' will be held Sept. 21.
Adults will be auditioned by appointment between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. To be considered for an appointment, send a photograph and resume to Casting Director, Cup/Carol/Timing, Mill Mountain Theatre, One Market Square, Roanoke, Va. 24011.
Auditions for Drama Workshop and Youth Ensemble for junior and senior high school students will be held in Rehearsal Hall B between 1 and 2 p.m. Children will be auditioned between 2 and 5 p.m. in Theatre B at 20 Church Ave. Children should prepare a short poem and one of these songs: ``Jingle Bells,'' ``Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer'' or ``We Wish You a Merry Christmas.''
