OAKEY'S TO BUILD ROANOKE CREMATORY

Oakey's Funeral Service of the Roanoke Valley said Thursday it will build a crematory at its North Chapel.

The 2,050-square-foot addition will enclose the existing courtyard and will have its own entrance. The new facility, at 6732 Peters Creek Road, is scheduled to open in January. The crematory will serve all four Oakey's locations.

An increasing number of people are requesting cremation arrangements, said Sam Oakey II, president of the company. Last year in Virginia, more than 14 percent of all funerals involved cremation.
