The proposed high-tech highway that would connect Blacksburg with Interstate 81 has a lot of support from political candidates this fall.
Both candidates for the U.S. Senate and both the Democratic and Republican candidates for the two congressional seats most directly effected by the road back the highway - which would be used to test computer technology to monitor traffic and alert drivers to potential hazards.
The only candidates opposed to the smart road are third-party contenders, Libertarian Jay Rutledge in the 6th District and Virginia Independent Party-Reform Party nominee Tom Roberts in the 9th District.
