GUNMEN INVADE APARTMENTS, ATTACK RESIDENTS

A Southeast Roanoke couple reported that they were assaulted at gunpoint by three men who broke into their apartment Saturday night at Indian Rock Village Public Housing Development.

Carolyn Andrews and Aaron Gallant were in their living room in the 2000 block of Indian Village Lane about 10:30 when three men came through their front door, police said. Two of the men held handguns and concealed their faces.

The men asked Andrews where "Priscilla" was. She replied that the woman lived next door. The men then tied up Andrews and Gallant with duct tape and fled the apartment.

Priscilla Walker, who lives next door, opened her door after she heard arguing in Andrews' apartment, police said. Three men rushed in, grabbed her by the throat and pushed her down.

One of the men asked Walker where her money was. When she denied having any, the man fired a shot into the floor. The men asked her where drugs were. When they could not find any, they fled the apartment. No arrests have been made.

Police also reported:

* A 24-year-old Southeast Roanoke man was charged Sunday with raping an acquaintance. Anthony Ray Hagy of 10th Street was in Roanoke City Jail on Monday Bail was set at $2,000.

Police said a 19-year-old Roanoke County woman told them she was visiting a friend on Tazewell Avenue Southeast about 11 p.m. Saturday and was raped. Hagy was arrested at his home.

* Roanoke detectives on Friday filed charges of destroying private property against six teen-age boys in connection with about $12,000 in property damage to vacant business and industrial buildings in Roanoke.

The vacant Norfolk Southern General Office building and the former Stone Printing Company, both on the first block of North Jefferson Street, were broken into the last week of August, police said. Vandals had sprayed fire extinguishers and thrown them through windows. Sinks were stopped up, which caused flooding. Some of the vandals spray-painted their names on the walls along with graffiti, police said.

The boys, who are being petitioned to Roanoke Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court, range in age from 14 to 17 and are from Southwest and Southeast Roanoke. A Norfolk Southern employee discovered the damage.
