Former North Carolina State basketball coach Les Robinson has been named athletic director for the Wolfpack.
Robinson, who had been serving as acting director, was named following the approval of the school's Board of Trustees.
``Les Robinson exemplifies that values you find throughout our athletics program today at N.C. State,'' said Chancellor Larry Monteith, who recommended Robinson's appointment. ``He will assure that this university is represented by student-athletes who are competitive on the field and successful in the classroom, by coaches who are role models and by staff who set a standard for hard work and dedication.''
Robinson stepped in as interim director when former athletic director Todd Turner accepted the same position at Vanderbilt. Robinson became associate athletic director after stepping down from the coaching job in March after six trying seasons.
Robinson also was athletics director at East Tennessee State from 1986 to 1990.
