Brandy Allen scored a game-high 14 points Thursday night to lead William Byrd to a 45-33 girls' basketball victory over Blacksburg on the Indians' home court.
Allen scored eight of her 14 points in the first quarter to keep the Terriers (10-2 overall, 5-1 Blue Ridge District) close at 15-16.
William Byrd pulled ahead in the second quarter and built upon its 30-25 halftime lead in a tough defensive game.
The Indians (3-10, 0-6) went cold after obtaining their slim advantage through the first quarter. They hit only 12 of their 44 shots from the field for the game.
Salem 47, Rockbridge County 32: At Salem, Sarah Palmer's 16 points helped send the Spartans to a sloppy Blue Ridge District victory over the Wildcats.
Salem (8-4) jumped to a 15-3 first-quarter lead and held on despite a rash of mistakes.
Elizabeth Faulkner had 12 points and Carmen Hambrick 10 for Rockbridge.
Glenvar 61, Auburn 42: The Highlanders had a balanced scoring attack led by Erika Hale's 15 points and 11 rebounds in their Three Rivers District win over the Eagles.
Amy Layman and Amanda Rydell added 11 points apiece and Amanda Kennedy and Bonnie Willett 10 each for Glenvar (8-4, 1-1).
Laura Underwood led Auburn (5-8, 0-2) with 12 points.
Bath County 54, Craig County 22: At New Castle, Katie Hardbarger scored 16 points and the Chargers bolted to a huge early lead and whipped the Rockets in a Pioneer District game.
Suzanna Shanks added 12 points for Bath (5-6, 1-1), which led 27-9 at halftime and cruised. Sommer Horn paced Craig (1-11, 1-1) with nine points.
Parry McCluer 59, James River 47: The Fighting Blues doubled up the Knights in the first quarter and cruised the remainder of the way for a Pioneer District victory.
Point guard Lindsey Coleman, coming off a 35-point performance Tuesday against Bath County, led the way with 17 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and five steals for Parry McCluer (7-5, 2-0). Clarissa Johnson added 11 and Nikki Barger 10 in the victory.
Nakia Burell led James River (2-9, 0-2) with 20 points.
