A 70-year-old Massachusetts woman was killed in Wythe County at 12:20 p.m. Tuesday when the car in which she was riding collided with another vehicle.
State police identified the victim as Virginia W. Secovich of Attleboro, Mass., who died at the scene.
She was a passenger in a car driven by Wanda S. Bourne of Fries. Bourne was taken to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital and was in critical condition Tuesday night.
Trooper J.L. Mullins investigated the accident, which happened on Interstate 81 when Bourne's southbound car went through a crossover and collided with a recreational vehicle in the northbound lane. The occupants of the RV escaped serious injury.
Secovich was wearing a seat belt, police said.
