BUCKLAND, Geneva Hurst, 87, of Radford, passed away Monday, October 7, 1996, in Rockville, Md. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Howard Buckland Sr. Survivors include one daughter and her husband, Dorothy Marie and Monte Charuhas of Rockville, Md.; one son and his wife, Robert H. Jr. and Pat Buckland of Radford; one brother, Curtis Hurst of Radford; one sister, Mrs. Anna Hunt of Roanoke; six grandchildren, Monica Schulze, Sterling Charuhas, Robert H. Buckland III, Crystal Kelly Smith, Aaron Buckland, and Paul Buckland; two great-grandchildren, Roman J. Schulze and Kara Lee Smith; three sisters-in-law, Evelyn Buckland, Augusta Dulaney, and Bunnie Hurst; one brother-in-law and his wife, Carl and Virginia Buckland. Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 10, 1996, at 11 a.m. at the Seaver-Sanders & Mullins Funeral Home in Radford with the Rev. Joe McCoy officiating. CAMPBELL, Charles Edward, 48, of Buchanan, passed away Monday, October 7, 1996, of a sudden illness. Born March 4, 1948 in Alleghany County to the late Selice A. ``Pete'' Campbell Sr. and Annie Landes Campbell, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Selice A. ``Bug'' Campbell in 1992. Mr. Campbell was a member of the Valley View Baptist Church in Buchanan. Survivors include his wife, Patty Harper Campbell, Buchanan; daughters, Latasha Campbell, Buchanan, and Teresa Lynch, Emporia; son, James Edward Campbell, Natural Bridge; stepdaughter, Michelle Harper, Buchanan; grandson, Daniel, of Emporia; sisters, Helen Pritt, Hot Springs, Betty Morgan and Ruth Fix, both of Falling Springs, Ethel Smith, Hot Springs, Mary Lipscomb and Juanita Montgomery, both of Covington, and Barbie Armentrout, Morris Hill; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, October 10, 1996, at 1 p.m. in Botetourt Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor David Smeltz, assisted by Rev. Bobby Riley, officiating. Interment will follow in the Johnson Creek ARP Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Alleghany County. Pallbearers will be selected from friends attending the services. CARDWELL, Annie Irene, 92, of Roanoke, died Monday, October 7, 1996 at the Lewis Gale Medical Center, Salem. She was the daughter of the late Charles Anthony and Georgia Blanks Cardwell, and preceded in death by seven sisters, Margie Caldwell, Norma Thompson, Edna Thompson, Gay Deacon, Georgia Drinkard, Louise Bondurant and an infant sister, Estelle Cardwell, and three brothers, Thomas D. Cardwell, Palmer Burton Cardwell and John Parrish Cardwell. A graduate of Radford College, she received a Master's Degree in Education from Duke University. Miss Cardwell retired as a long term professor in education from Radford University. She was a long time and active member of Grove Avenue United Methodist Church, Radford, and currently a member of Huntington Court United Methodist Church, Roanoke. Miss Cardwell was active in garden club affairs in both Radford and Roanoke. Surviving are a sister, Charlotte C. McLaughlin, Richmond; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, October 10, 1996 from Oakey's North Chapel. Dr. Alton M. Washington, the Rev. Robert M. Chapman and Kenneth Schoff will officiate. Interment services will follow at 3:30 p.m. Thursday in the Concord Cemetery, Concord, Va. The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Oakey's North Chapel, Peters Creek Road, Roanoke.

DIVERS, Emma Scott, 91, of Charleston, S.C., and formerly of Roanoke, died Tuesday, October 8, 1996, in Charleston, S.C. She is survived by two sons, Robert C. Scott, Hot Springs, Ark., William W. Scott, North Charleston, S.C.; two stepsons, John D. Divers, R. Donald Divers; two stepdaughters, Virginia Filcox, Betty Overby, all of Roanoke; 16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildre n. Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 10, 12 noon, at the Lotz Salem Chapel, with the Rev. Walter Lockett officiating. Interment will be in Sherwood Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Green Memorial United Methodist Church in Roanoke. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
DOSS, Florence Smith, 82, of Concord, died Tuesday, October 8, 1996, in Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the wife of the late John Alfred Doss Jr. Born in Appomattox County on August 7, 1914, she was a daughter of the late John Andrew Smith Sr. and Sallie Mable Guill Smith. She was a retired employee of Amelia Dress, and a member of Calvary Baptist Church where she had perfect attendance for 37 years. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, William (``Buck"") and Juanita Doss of Salem; a daughter and son-in-law, Helen and Alvin Phelps of Concord; two granddaughters, Karen and Mike Blankenship of Navarre, Fla., and Kristie Renee Doss of Salem; a great-grandson, Zachary David Wright of Florida; five sisters, Viola Ferguson of Appomattox, Grace and Jim Hawkins of Concord, Colyer Weatherholtz of Kenton, Ohio, Vernelle and Calvin Childress of Appomattox, and Reva and Rick Cruise of Glen Burnie, Md.; two brothers, Moses (``Dick"") and Shirley Smith, and Wiley and Lois Smith of Spout Spring. She was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Anthony (``Tony"") Phelps and Judith Darlene Doss; two sisters, and three brothers. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, October 10, 1996, at Calvary Baptist Church by the Rev. Frank Casper, with burial in Concord Cemetery. HALL, Andrew Charles, 78, of Roanoke, passed away Tuesday, October 8, 1996. He was retired from Norfolk and Western Railway. McGEORGE, Lura Waldron, 90, of Vinton, died Tuesday, October 8, 1996. She was a member of the Vinton Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for 30 years. She was the widow of Lawrence H. McGeorge. Virginia was a retired supervisor from Piedmont Airlines and was preceded in death by her sister, Teneva Scott Baird and her brothers, O. Bouyer (B. B.) Baird, Jr., James Wesley Baird, and William (Bill) Marshall Baird. Surviving are her husband, Robert I. Price, Jr.; her son and daughter-in-law, James R., Jr. and Lee T. Bowman, Raleigh, N.C.; her daughter and son-in-law, Lynne B. and Steve Rogers, Columbus, Ohio; her grandchildren, Robert A. Feltner, Jr., Indian Harbor Beach, Fla., Kimberly L. PUCKETT, Harold, 67, of Saltville, died Tuesday, October 8, 1996 at his home. He worked for the Olin Corporation until it closed and retired from the Virginia Water Control Board in Abingdon, Va. Mr. Puckett was a member of the Main Street Christian Church for 40 years, where he served as Deacon, Elder, Relief Minister and Chairman of the Board. He was the Minister at the Christian Church in Little Valley and Duncan Ville for several years. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and a founding member and Chaplain of the Saltville V.F.W. Post #7328. Mr. Puckett served as Mayor of Saltville from 1980 to 1982. He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Bessie Puckett, and one sister, Ruth Totten. Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Mary Sue (Barbrow) Puckett, Saltville; three sons, Michael Puckett, Saltville, Harold D. ``Bud"" Puckett, Saltville, Timothy Puckett, Roanoke; one sister, Eula Ellison, Saltville; two daughters-in-law, Fran and Sherrie Puckett; two grandsons, Michael and Christopher Puckett; one great-grandson, McKinley Puckett; special family friend, Shelby Stuart; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mr. Harold Puckett will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday, October 11, 1996, in the D. R. Henderson Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Perry Haagen and the Rev. Dan Jividan officiating. Reed; a son and daughter-in-law, Dennis K. and Linda R. Reed, Roanoke; two sisters, Dorothy Wirt, Atlanta, Ga., Elenora Keffer, Roanoke; two grandchildren, John Matthew Reed, David Aaron Reed. TAYLOR, Virgil, 77 of Penhook died Monday, October 7, 1996 at his residence. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Surviving are his wife, Hazel Jones Taylor; daughters and sons-in-laws, Marie T. George, Francis and Charles Lawrence, Georgie and Bobby Weaver, all of Penhook, Cathy and Richard Christian, of Har dy, Josie and Stacy Hodges, Penhook; 10 grandchildren; six great grandchildren. VAUGHT, Virginia Umberger, 93, of Rt. 2, Wytheville, died Tuesday, October 8, 1996 at her residence. She was born in Wythe County, the daughter of the late Thomas J. and Aurelia Murray Umberger. She was a graduate of Villa Maria Academy, attended Radford State Teacher College and taught in the Wythe County School System. Mrs. Vaught was a life member of Huddle Memorial United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and also a member of the UDC and DAR. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Scott Vaught. She is survived by a son, Walter Thomas Vaught, DVM; a daughter, Helen V. Aker, both of Wytheville; grandchildren and spouses, Scott and patricia Aker, Chris and Brenda Aker, Ginger Porter, David and Teresa Aker, all of Wytheville, Maxie and T. C. Aker of Max Meadows; and four great-grandchildren, Nathan, Cory, Lisa and Brittany Aker. Graveside services and interment will be conducted Thursday, October 10, 1996, at 11 a.m. at the Davis Cemetery, with the Rev. Joe Carrico officiating.
